Me....I'm right on track --- Figured this would be a two-year project and sure enough, two and a half years later...it's still two years to completion.

Re: Our Bus, Our Home

Still need to add some trim but we finished the cabinet lids the other evening, it was a beautifully warm evening. Still finishing up the drivers area and then we'll turn our attention back to the rest, work our way back so to speak. With the warm weather we can finally get back to our penetrating epoxy sealer we're putting on our window sills and get the rest of the wood work done. We're about a month from putting in the flooring, didn't want to damage it during all the woodworking.

Re: Our Bus, Our Home

Some more work on the dash and cab area. Added a maple dashboard with black walnut trim. Walnut is attached to 2x2 pieces that were sanded with a matching curve and screwed to the defrost duct; there was a small area that protruded from the maple were I cut it to clear the steering wheel but the belt sander took care of that, kinda reminds me of the back of a guitar the way it came out. I also routed some 3/4" deep trays into a piece of 5/4" curly maple for the drivers tray/sound barrier we mounted over the engine cowl, we're very happy with the result. Just about finished with the couch as well, will post pics of that soon.

...I was pretty surprised at just how much stuff (construction materials for now) fits in the couch.

Re: Our Bus, Our Home

Bookshelf/overhead storage and front entertainment center built, still need a little hardware and a few coats of poly on the shelf and I'm waiting on speaker grills (Alpine 6x9's don't come with grills, you gotta order 'em) for the front. Front cabinet will get a flat screen on an adjustable arm, Nintendo wii or other gaming/wifi system will fit down into it and behind the tv, CB will mount up in here, etc. Definitely a challenge on this little framed box. We added a piece of Maple we found at HD; it was pretty rough in a few spots and I could tell it was curl, once you sand it smooth it looks pretty cool. All of the wood that touches metal has been given a healthy soaking of 2 part clear penetrating epoxy sealer to keep it protected against condensation. Yes, I love working with wood but I'm getting closer to being done with it and I'm kinda glad. All we really have left besides flooring and a little more woodwork (pantry shelves, foldout table) is the poop tanks and the belly storage. Poop tanks are on order and the belly storage plans have been drawn up, gonna get on those next week. Oh yeah, and we gotta finish fiberglassing the shower .

Re: Our Bus, Our Home

Thanks everyone, running on empty these days, last night was my 25th straight night til 2-3 am, tough to take a night off at this point, I'll break my streak Spent the last two evening/mornings getting the rest of the roving in the shower, I'd guess I'm halfway through with this crazy venture, so many hours and I still have to wet the rest of the roving, sand out all my runs, coat it, cloth it, wet it again, sand it again and then topcoat it a few times. Again, it'll look cool but I wish I'd have gone with a two piece shower surround. Pictures to follow.

Re: Our Bus, Our Home

Sanded the shower and put a final precoat of epoxy on before adding the cloth, what a bitch. Some of the roving was out further than the board faces, had to use the belt sander which was a little unnerving but makes for a nice flush wall to tack the cloth to, not looking forward to that part, kinda like cutting holes in the bus, gotta be done but there's plenty of fretting about it before it gets done.

Also got the drawer/pullout shelves done for the pantry, 1/2" hardwood plywood throughout; there will be plenty of weight on these shelves, canned goods, etc. They'll have a maple drawer front attached once they're mounted on ball bearing drawer glides (which cost about 1/30th of what we paid for the bus) so we can get a good fit. I'll be finishing up the pantry tonight after this next tattoo.

Re: Our Bus, Our Home

Been working for the last week on a few steel projects, found an aluminum ladder off an old rv that worked great for a template, making some pinned cleats to attach to the back of the bus so the ladder is removable when not needed (1 inch thick wall steel pipe for the cleats, ladder will be 3/4 inch galvanized pipe we're bending into the ladder, more to come on this one.

Also working on an over/under receiver for the back of the bus (top for bike rack, bottom for trailer/car/boat/etc), a receiver for the front (gonna have a winch on a stinger that can be used in front or back, it's only 8500 lb capacity but it was free, it's new and it'll come in handy), and two 6 ft belly storage boxes we're making out of 1/8" steel plate, one for each side, propane and wood storage on one side, battery bank and charger storage on the other. Also ordered our black and grey tanks (lots of money spent this week) so we can get the plumbing wrapped up. More pics to come.
