Painting...

Sooo my daughter loves cheetahs and we thought how cool and easy it works be to have a cheetah bus 😅 just keep it the yellow and paint cheetah spots on it... Anyone know the legality of this. It's it technically painted or do I have to get rid of the yellow color all together

I think the primary purpose of the law(s) forbidding the use of "school bus yellow" is so that the bus can't be mistaken for being a school bus. Of course there is the "letter" of the law and the intent of the law....those 2 things don't always match...

So, I'd say, paint the spots...make the yellow just the background color. Perhaps the worse that would happen is that you'll have to paint it again.

I've seen more than one skoolie that wasn't painted...they don't look that great but they are out there.

State specific. Iowa's rule is the bus must be "more than half" a different color from school bus "chrome yellow." Here its popular for people to paint half their tailgate buses with black stripes for the Iowa Hawkeyes or maroon red for the Cyclones to meet the 51% rule.

Just keep in mind though that the laws apply to whatever state you're driving in, not the state the bus is "from"

I'm in California, but could register the bus in Nevada or Washington also..
I'll only be driving through California, Oregon, and Washington for our trips
