Steve I hope you are more impressed with your spray foam insulation that I was with mine. I mean it's fine but I didn't find it to be worth the expense compared to XPS. Sucks about your batteries and break in damage, what's the deal with people trying to break into buses lately?

And of course, pics!

I have had enough damage done to parked and locked vehicles that most of the time I leave my vehicles unlocked and with nothing of value in sight.

I am really hoping that I can straighten the door. Unlike some others that have poorly sealing service entrance , mine was snug and sealed well.

The link does go to an example of XPS, but XPS is short for extruded polystyrene.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is the bead type, usually white in color -- the stuff used for hot drink cups, disposable coolers, and packaging for electronics. Also available in board form.

To me, skinning over the original bus windows does way more for heat retention than spray foam. If I end up skinning my windows I'd probably do 2" foam board depending on how much of the budget is left.

However if I can find a local contractor to do spray foam at a good price then I'd be all for it! Someone on the Skoolie FB group had a 40ft bus done at 1.5 inches for $750 which is the lowest I've ever seen for a spray foam job.

Sounds like you did well on the spray foam, price wise. So sucks to hear about the break-in, though. Some people are filth.
Am I to understand this was on the property of the spray foam installer? Do you have any recourse?

You're right, I switched the two. The good stuff is pink or blue, not white!

Looking good. I hate how the pics always make them look so BIG. I looked at a bus today that looked quite different in person than the year old pics.

Insulation looks awesome. I am raising the roof on my 2000 BB AA RE right now and want to do spray foam insulation. Quick question, did you remove the "black tar" from the inside of the bus sheet metal and if so how did you remove it?

It was parked on the street in front of their shop.

Recourse? Yeah, break out the Visa card..... The shop took no responsibility.

There was hardly any of it in my bus and it was so well adhered that i left it alone.

Progress!

Albeit slow progress. I shed the back brace a couple of weeks ago but am not very mobile yet. But enough that we managed to get the floor framing and insulation done.

I screwed the 2x4s to the floor and laid them out so that I can screw the 1/2" plywood down to the 2x4s.

Next will be cutting grooves in the floor insulation to lat conduit across to carry electrical to the passenger side. Then plywood.

Last, I found a cool tool. I have used Kreg jigs to fasten 1/2" to 3/4" lumber for years. I found one scaled for fastening 2x lumber.

Love it so far. Is there any reason why you didn't cut or install your windows before spray foam?

Also noticed your Bluebird has the curved driver's dash. Didn't realize that the 2002s had it, just assumed 2003 was the first year for that. Do you also have the rocker switch panels next to the drivers seat or is it the older pull buttons?

I didn't cut or install the windows yet because I have not picked out the windows yet. When I do put them in I will have to remove foam to accommodate framing for the windows.

My dash switches are all rockers.

I've been debating if it's better to cut the window openings before installing the window skins. I have a buddy with access to a metal laser cutter but obviously it can only be done on a bench not when it's installed in the bus.

If someone near me is parting out a newer Bluebird I may look into snagging the curved dash pieces if a swap makes sense.
