Re: Jake's first skoolie...

I havent done anything, yet, but I plan on using a portable. I don't mind dealing with a gray tank, but I am really going to try to avoid a black tank. That's my plan for now, at least. Also, little more info on the screws...They are triple coated deck screws made by midwest manufacturing.

Re: Jake's first skoolie...

Have fun!! I am ridiculously excited to get the bus moved this sunday. Can't wait to start working on it again!! A little anxious as well as it hasn't been started in over a year and is parked on a farmer's property. Not to mention I will be driving it on a narrow easement along my neighbors property and then shoe horning it in alongside a shed. Without damaging the yard. Good times will be had by all I may have to post some video!

Well, it is parked in the yard! I included pics I took today, so you can see exactly how it sits as of right now.

Is that flooring floor or did you glue or nail it?

Re: Project "Brutus"

No updates, but checking to see how many gearheads we have My DT466 is the 210 hp model. I have already turned the fuel pump up pretty much as far as I can, adjusted the preboost, advanced the injection timing, and straight piped it. Redneck, I know, haha... I just missed a 230hp injector pump on ebay for $200 or something...GAH!! My wish list is a 230hp pump to play with, an hx40w turbo and propane injection. And then regear from 4.78 to 3.91. 60mph at 2000 rpm's and still have plenty of power...that would be the goal. I will likely do none of it, though, as I need to focus on the bus itself. Fun to dream, though!!

Re: Project "Brutus"

Finally got some work done. Other than my shower and sink drain, all plumbing is run. I just need to purchase and install a hot water heater, and then finish my shower. And I am in the middle of the building the overhead cupboards on the driver side, right now. Once they are completed, it's time to build my driver's console and figure out what I want to do with the front heater. I think I'm basically going to start at the front of the bus then, and work my way back, completing as I go.

Thanks! It feels good to be working on it again. A little overwhelming at times, but good. I have basically cut out all other hobbies, distractions, so I can focus on this. My kids are getting excited!

Re: Project "Brutus"

Building cabinets in a bus, when you tend to be a perfectionist, SUCKS! Haha...I had forgotten how challenging it can be. Last night was a little frustrating, as I tore more apart than I built, but the driver side cabinets are now squarish and ready for doors

Looking good, wish I was that far along.

Don't you just love how nothing is actually straight and square in the bus. I usually settle for the cabinet I'm working on to be square with itself and as close as I can get with the bus.
Much ado with strings, squares, magnets and tape measures.

Re: Project "Brutus"

Yup!! I do things mostly the same, make sure the components are square and then get them as square as possible to the bus, but when I build something "into" the bus, with the walls as part of the structure, it gets fun I have learned one thing that is key. Just keep moving forward and don't obsess over the little stuff. In the end, your family isn't really going to care if there is an 1/8" gap here and there.

That's what trim is for! My trim appears decorative, but in actuality it is hiding a multitude of errors.

Re: Project "Brutus"

Yup! I also have a secret weapon...log home caulking. It stays flexible, and does not shrink over time. Is designed to fill large gaps, and is decorative in nature. I am a master at smoothing it and making it look nice

A really nice build!!! Love the pictures of the kids having fun. My dad built a bus when I was about their age, and I cherish those memories still today. Look forward to more pics of the process
