If your going to use broke C-channel over the old ribs, why not have them make broke hat channel ?
Then you have in one piece what your creating via the C-channel and then welding on angle irons.

Yeah that was one of the black widows. We've also found a brown recluse and a poisonous orb spider in there.
Mostly when it sits for months.
we haven't had any brown widows in it yet, thankfully. once they settle somewhere they're almost impossible to get rid of. They came here from S Africa a few decades ago and are taking over. They're just like a black widow only brown with an orange hourglass.

The type of channel AmTran used in my 92 is some stupid proprietary size.
Plus- when the new hat would be set on the old ribs, the flanges wouldn't be flush with the old ones anyway, so the C channel makes more sense to me since the hat channel wouldn't be flush and would require filler strips anyway.

Bad news is, unless you get a really powerful, commercial spray meant specifically for spiders, the over the counter stuff won't do squat. They are tough buggers to kill. 'Bout the only way to kill'em with that stuff is to smash'em with the can.
The only thing I ever came across that would do them in instantly was the old formula of Brake Kleen. Would drop'em like a rock but the new "environmentally friendly" stuff does nothing.

I don't like chemicals in my living/work spaces.
I kill em mechanically.
Once you make your presence in an area regularly, they tend to go somewhere else. Especially after you kill several of them.
Brake cleaner still works here. So does carb cleaner, adhesive remover, or anything that's like that.
The one in the aluminum scooper in my pic was killed with Oreilly brake cleaner, IIRC.

It didn't, unfortunately. He got it all wrong. Trying again tomorrow.
Gona go UNDER the exiting hat channel on the ribs, instead of over. Then some 14ga angle on the sides and it will be good.

we have brown recluse in Ohio... they survive the cold winters...
when I got my bus from texas there were all kinds of spider webs underneath the bus... but one of the nice texas rainstorms on highway 10 took care of that problem.. they all got washed away... then i drove it to ohio where it was 3 degrees for like 4 days... nothing survived that under there...

Finally got a sample back that fits decent!
Gonna have 40 of them cut and bent today @ 33" each.
I can fill the gap from top to bottom from the bottom of the window to the top with that size and it will result in 12" of raise.
That's what I decided to go with, will be plenty for headroom and insulation.

Those look great. I think 12" raise is good, gives you headroom but doesn't make your bus so tall it can't fit under most bridges or get blown everywhere by the wind

nothing.
My stepdad's been working at that shop for nearly 40 years.
I grabbed some free all-thread and nuts while I was there. The biggest I could get was 3/4" but I think it will do just fine.
Now to get a keg. Maybe some Invasion Pale Ale?

Looking good East Coast! Wish I could be there for the raise but travel from Washington state is too far at this time. Enjoying the thread though and looking forward to pictures of the process. It's about 20 degrees out with freezing rain on top of the new 5 inches of snow we got yesterday so I am just living vicariously through you lucky few who get to participate.

Your roof raise will go fine. I did mine by my lonesome for most of it. Only had help turning the nuts to actually raise it, did all prep, welding and cutting solo.
The time it took me to actually raise the roof with the allthread jacks after all prep was only about an hour and a half...
I wouldn't worry too much about it. I used 3/4" allthread to do my raise as well and it was more than sturdy enough to support the weight. Was originally planning on using 6 allthread lifting mechanisms, ended up only needing 4 and it was rock solid when lifting...

THANKS!!!
I definitely am not an ego-driven kinda guy so I can use all the encouragement/reassurance I can get. Once I do one, I'll probably be ready to do ten! But I'm a worryer by nature.
WHy herbal remedies work so well to de-stress me.
