RYO's new owner, Keith-

At 6'3" he can stand on the wheel wells and still has headroom! NICE!

He stayed with us last night and tonight we're grilling some ribeyes after a long day at the bus. Tomorrow we're off to the tag office, fingers crossed hoping all that goes well.

He's got Roxy hooked on La Croix

This one picture is enough to make me quit concentrating on finding a 78" Thomas and accept that I have a roof-raise in my future.

... and the world of buses just got much bigger.

His raise isn't even all that tall. He did 10" IIRC. Going 15" with mine so I can insulate and "raise" the floor. Insulation, plywood, plus whatever floor covering. Ceiling will be insulated at least an inch beyond the ribs, plus whatever covering. Hoping that'll leave me at least the same 10".

She's driving NICE now. New oil, with Hot Shot's oil additive. Its OFFICIAL- the stuff makes your engine run smoother and quieter.
Took it to the local truck tire yard and got a couple new chinese drive tires to replace the right rear that were beyond shot. I don't recall the brand, but they've got a nice, meaty tread and they ride REALLY nice.
Got everything all set, and he's been ready to go, but he's getting jacked around bad trying to find insurance. Apparently all you Texans with insured buses are extremely lucky, connected, or skilled.
I'm starting to think he's going to have to carry on the tradition of driving it home with no tags.
Th oil change was fun, I'll get some pics up later.

If I didn't know any better I would say the "new back door" of that bus is actually a van shelf.

Its a multi-use, modular shelf assembly!
My van had three of them, but I only wanted/needed one.
I've still got one left if anyone wants it. FWIW they're nice shelves!

After driving around town and hitting 60 mph on some country roads, I'm very impressed with how awesomely the bus rides and drives.
Anyone that says the interior skins and all that garbage are "structural" needs to take a ride in this bus. Its solid as a rock!

If I had it all to do over again, I'd probably go even a bit more conservative and stay at 8".
In fact we're thinking of doing a small raise on the new shorty if the headroom isn't comfortable for us.
If RYO had come with even 2 more inches of headroom from the factory we'd have never raised it. But at 5'10" I was almost hitting my head in the Ward.

Wouldn't that make the shorty a tall-y?

Well. Keith is on his way to Del Rio Tx in Roll Your Own #1.
I'm SO GLAD it went to such an awesome new owner. USAF officer no less!
He was delayed a whole day waiting to get insurance, which I finally found for him. Progressive Commercial saves the day again!

He loves his new bus!

Got some driving practice on Shaun's property.

He got acquainted with it fairly quickly, but 150 miles or so and he'll be a pro. He seemed to take to driving it pretty well. We greased all the U-joints and other fittings underneath for the long trip, checked everything one more time, and started to get ready to part ways.

I rode with him in RYO to the end of the driveway to help him get through the tight squeeze at the end followed by an immediate hard right around some trash cans.
He did real well.
I hated to get out of the bus when we reached the end of the driveway and let it go. I almost ALMOST cried a little, but I was also filled with happiness that it was finally going down the road to its new home.
Here they are, leaving

I'll miss the bus, and I'll miss Keith. We really enjoyed having him over.
You meed the nicest people in this school bus community!
