More cutting up my panels to accommodate the overhead bins.





I decided to make this one taller since the top of the door is lower than the tops of the windows. I also decided to make it a full 50" wide instead of stopping it at the right side of the door as I had originally planned.





I was all motivated to finish this tonight but I ran out of screws.



I'm a little uncertain about this bin. It is larger and more obtrusive than I thought it would be, although it's not really in the way of anything (more visually obtrusive). The hammock still fits underneath it somehow, although maneuvering myself into it is a little trickier.



Oh well, I don't see a lot of people complaining about how they built too much storage space into their skoolie. I can always rebuild it smaller later on if I want to.

Paid for another year of Allstate RV insurance. There was no requirement that I insure my car with Allstate as well. I wonder what was going on with the people who said Allstate was requiring them to do this.

Finishing up my emergency door overhead bin.





Pulled my new hood vent out of the box. Of course the corner got dinged up during shipping. Trying to decide if I care enough to return it. I can't believe what an insubstantial piece of nothingness this thing is for $110. That's what I get for buying new, but I couldn't find a used one that was white.



Been looking for a used tiny microwave for a while now. Noticed this one (0.7 cu ft, 700 watt) at Home Depot for $55. I'll be able to fit this overhead next to the hood vent.



Paneling the bin ends so I can run a shelf between them.

Thanks! It does feel like the pace of everything has accelerated considerably. I basically had an empty shell four months ago, but it took me two years to get to the empty shell stage.

Really liked your repurpose on those stair treads for the overheads. It's easy to build the Instagram/Faceplant buses when you've got the $100,000 budgets to just throw the money around but I'd much rather see the creativity and work that happens here. Always impressed with what everyone comes up with. Finished my cabinet drawer fronts with scraps off the shop floor and it felt great not running to the lumber store with my third born child!

Test-placing the shelf thingie over my countertop. It didn't want to be flush against the back wall.



To help it fit I pre-attached these uprights, and on the splice I only put one screw on the back side so the combined piece could flex if necessary.



This is how I should have done all my overhead bins, since screwing in the uprights drew the shelf tight against the back wall.



Center divider which also supports the shelf in the middle.



I attached 2" rips of the stair tread on the front of the shelf, which creates a 1" lip.



This shelf will probably remain open, maybe with bungie netting to keep stuff from falling out. Or maybe I'll put doors on it, I dunno. Either way it's useful storage space that I won't bang my head into when working at the counter.



Speaking of banging my head, I've already brained myself three times on these new overhead bins. Hard to get used to stuff being in the way up there now.

Those shelves are VERY handy! Man- i don't often comment as I'm not much of a builder, I'm more just into the buses themselves... But this is one inspirational build.
I hope when you finish you can find your way down here for a visit. You're one of the kindest, most genuine folks on here.

Thanks man, your kind words mean a lot to me. It's nice to know a few people appreciate what I'm doing here. I think without it I most likely would have quit a long time ago (possibly to my benefit ).

I'm actually somewhat contemplating driving my bus down to Ormond this December and staying in it through February, depending on if I can find a reasonably inexpensive campground (and safe! last year I was passing a ratty trailer park in Daytona and happened to glance over to see a guy yelling at his neighbors while holding an AK) and if I can get my 6.17 rear gear swapped for something more reasonable for highway travel - I don't think I want to go 900 miles at 50 mph.

Checked my coolant today and it was below the min line so I bought this stuff to fill it up.



It's red (not green) and the truck parts store I got it from thinks it's the right stuff for a DT466e (2002) but I'm wondering about the bit on the back that says "ULTRA LOW SILICATE FORMULA" since my coolant tank says "silicates added".



Is this the right coolant?

Woo hoo, finally found a chair I like for my desk (and one that will actually fit)! $30 on OfferUp. It actually looks like the arms will match the nunchuks that hold the desk up.

Thanks! I'm tickled pink (or whatever color my coolant is supposed to be) to think of people, ahem, borrowing some of my ideas. I am actually a secret agent for the dowel industry.

I did upper shelves as well recently and thought I wouldn't hit them. Doh!
Still worth it for the storage.

Thanks! I actually gave myself my worst crack yet last night. After I started my bus I did a walkthrough in the back and noticed that I'd left the window behind the toilet open. I leaned forward to close it and smacked my face right into the piece above the shower stall. indeed. I'm starting to walk around my bus like the hunchback of notre dame.

One thing I knew would be a problem with my windows is that they're fairly easy to open and close when the bus is empty, but when you have to lean forward over furnishings to do it they're a lot more difficult to work.
