RV There Yet? The tale of a 92 BB TC2000

We started our work on the bus this week end. We were able to get the remaining 8 rows of seats out, the floor up, cleaned and prepped and alas painted. I will post some pictures as soon as I figure that task out.

Hi kenny76 Yes we all want to see pictures, but posting them is not always easy. I found a place that will hoist your pictures free. You just have to copy the link for forms/message boards. But as with all free sites it is best to always keep a copy of your pictures on a flash drive just in case. Also I resize my pictures with paint to 700x525 pixles as they will upload faster.

Here is the site http://tinypic.com/

The best of luck with your build and will await your pictures the old man Richard

Love the name, RV there yet? I named mine Betsy for the simple reason of not having anything better in mind. Though that seems to be a theme. My wife renamed one of our cats when he started answering to "furry little bastard"........

Re: RV There Yet? The tale of a 92 BB TC2000

Just a little note, according to Rustoleum, you cannot use many of their products on galvanized metal because of a chemical reaction called soaponification (sp) that will occur when you use an alkaloid based paint on a galvanized metal. They recommended the use of Zinser 123 which is what I used. I saw the warning just before I popped the lid on my Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. I made a call to the customer service number on the can and they directed me to the Zinser.

Roger that --- Painting galvanized requires special treatment. There are also etching primers made specially for use on galvanized as well. Ordinary paint won't adhere without it and as you discovered there can also be chemical reactions between the zinc and certain paints.

Ok so how can I determine which Allison I have? This is important to me because I am considering modifying the governor spring to get the ability to maintain a safe speed while driving in less than flat terrain.

Re: RV There Yet? The tale of a 92 BB TC2000

I looked at that last night and I cant say 100% that it is either. I am almost certain it is the dreaded 545. I will look from the passenger side in the daylight if I get the chance. I started a new job week before last, have gotten a lot of new fire cases, finished up a term on my masters degree and got stuck in jury duty all week so I have been busy. My wife was able to get the title done and tag home. The insurance was a bit delayed because of the underwriting process but its insured for a year for $340.00.

Re: RV There Yet? The tale of a 92 BB TC2000

I don't know who else has been working on the demo side of things, but I worked all day on our bus today and seem to have gotten very little accomplished. I took a break on rivet busting for a bit and installed the rear door lock. I feel better about leaving some of my tools in her over the week now. As far as the rivets go I have no idea what they made the ones on my bus out of but it actually curled the edge of my air chisel. I went to the depot and bout a small sledge and a 3/4" cold chisel with a safety handle. Takes alot of whacks but eventually the head shears off. 88 rivets down several hundred more to go. The next to the last panel at the rear of the roof is on the ground. I am hoping this extra work is gonna be worth it.

Re: RV There Yet? The tale of a 92 BB TC2000

Nat,
Your posting about the hand chisel is why I went ahead and bought one at the depot. It's a whole lot of hammer swinging when its 4-5 strikes per rivet multiplied by the remaining 200+ rivets. I was hoping for a faster way. The drill method is so slow its almost faster to watch them rust out. I even tried an oscillating tool to saw the head off. Ended up with a toothless blade and 10 minutes less time.

I tried drilling & grinding & chisel, were I could I cross ground the heads then one maybe 2 hits with a chisel, were I couldn't, 4 to 6 hits with a chisel, cross grinding prevented distortion
