Re: Solar Questions...

Roof Deck and Awnings will help, as will light colored paint with the ceramic additive. Dyna-mat type products claim that they work as both a sound dampener and insulation, so you could put a layer of that inside the walls with spray in foam or foamboard over it. Furring Strips over the metal ribs will give you more room to put in insulation, and help with thermal transfer. And using wood planks as a finished inside wall will add beauty and insulation to the walls. Plus its easier to hang pictures in the solid wood, and if you have to get behind it, depending on how you installed it, you can take down only what you have too in order to get to what you need behind it...

Just a few ideas to think about.

Re: Solar Questions...

If you're hoping to boondock, I definitely agree with Smitty.... you need to get away from the humidity to make cooling in the summer easiest. Florida in the winter is fabulous! Any other time, the humidity will make living without A/C unbearable. If you wish to stay in the area, then you'll need to find a place to park that has power to run your A/C units. In a dryer climate there are many ways to keep cool naturally (i.e. evaporation) that just don't work in humid situations.

Re: Solar Questions...

Welcome to skoolie! It is great to see so much enthusiasm!

Tell us exactly what you want to run with solar & that will give us something to work on to help you to decide on what you need to buy for power. I have some really good links to help you to calculate what you will need & they also explain in detail all about solar power.

We are in the process of setting up solar in our Thomas to run our internet business off grid. We have a Xantrex 1000 watt sine-wave inverter, a charge controller & we just bought (3) 90 watt panels. We are buying our AGM battery bank this week but I am still unsure what AmpHour batteries we want to purchase...

Put this in your favorites, will come in handy...be sure to check out the other links on the site also.

Keep us in the loop & be sure to post photos of your bus when you get it!
