Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

He thanks for the answers. I was looking at windows from TriStateSurPlus but wasnt quiete sure if they would fit. But with your confirmation I'll be bitting. bad part is it costs so much to ship them up north to Canada.

I'm just over 6' hence nosealing panels. Insulated floor thats it.

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

Yeah, at 6' you would have a problem dropping the ceiling....unless you raise the roof that is!!

The windows were an easy fit actually. If you remove the old windows you'll see you have enough room for 22" window height... Width wise if they are wider than the standard window opening, just take a sawzall and lop off the piller. You may have to grind down any stubs that are left over with an angle grinder, but it took me roughly 5 minutes cut out the pillar and grind out the stubs.

The window comes in 2 pieces, and outside piece and an inner trim ring. They sandwich together to hold everything in place. You can also install some screws on the outside piece but they look better without the screws. The top of the window you slide up under the little window lip/drip-edge and push the bottom in so that it rests on the bottom of the window opening. If you have someone there to hold that in place all the power to ya, I used some spring clamps.

Then go inside the bus, place the inner trim ring into place, and fasten the screws through that into the rear of the outside piece... You get to see screws inside, but the outside looks nice & clean. If you are going to skin the outside of the bus, do this before installing the windows. It would be nice to install any paneling first too, but I just took the inside trim off when I paneled then reinstalled it...

Hey, your bus looks fantastic! I had been fretting over what to do for cabinet doors until I found your link! You can't beat those prices. I'm assuming that you bought oak doors, and built the frames out of oak and stained it all the same color right?

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

Pretty much. The doors on that site are pre-finished, which really had me worried at first. But I bought them anyway, I got the ones that were open frame only (capable of mirror or wood insterts) and made my own oak inserts from a piece of unfinished oak 4x8 panel...

I bought a can of stuff at Lowes that seems to match close to perfectly with what they have, so close no one has yet been able to determine there is actually a difference. The stuff I'm using is "MinWax" brand and it's a stain & poly combo, one coat does it all...color is 'Classic Oak' (Lowes item #24902)

BTW, the top cabinet doors I got are 21x9 oak cathederal open frame. They are about perfect for the top cabinets...

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

A couple of new additions this week...

Decided to work on the bed area, and the fresh water tank goes in underneath of it...

The water tank is not piped up, but this is the placement for it. Still loads of room underneath the bed for storage too!!

Once the tank was down, I built a frame for the bed and installed hinges etc so that I would have access to it....

It's only 6' long at this point, will add some more to the foot area that will also flip up. Adequate space here for a queen mattress...

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

The bedroom continues to click along... Got the end table, completed last week, finished wiring the rear of the bus and built the front face to the closet...

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

The closet on the opposite side went up last weekend. The void area behind the wall to the left of the doors will have shelving placed in there...

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

I finished off the closet-bedroom walls this week, this is the passenger side from on top of the bed looking forward...

And this the closet on the other side (Drivers side)....

I also picked up a brand new back-up monitor via Craigslist this week for only $25, seems the guy had no use for it...

More pictures and a complete write-up are posted HERE

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

After getting a whole bunch of free carpeting the other week, I decided this was going to be the stuff to use to finish the lower walls with, make a carpet skirt from the seat rail down to the floor...

Then I used some over the wheel well too (under the desk)....

And of course the rest of the floor too!!

More pictures of this, the shower door, and an outside electrical outlet are located HERE

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

They say 'The third time is the Charm" so let's hope so... My first two attempts at window skinning turned into something that looked totally awful. What I'm using this time probably won't last, but it's a good interim measure and will hold up for a while. I have decided that working with metal is simply NOT my forte, so I skinned the windows over with waterproof shower board. My guess is that the stuff is NOT going to be UV friendly, so maybe I need to keep the whole thing parked in the woods perhaps!!

Re: The "Behemoth" comes to life....

Yes, that's the water heater under the E-Door, it's both propane and 120vac capable...

The floor will be insulated partially with the carpet itself, as well as underneath. Right now my main thrust is to get the thing looking presentable enough that the campground I live at will allow it in. They don't care for older rigs and home made stuff, but if it's done well enough they will let it in.

Carpeting will work fairly well as an insulator. The center part of the bus has a heated storage compartment, and the rest of it will be insulated with something between the ribs under the floor, then covered with corrogated plastic material (same belly enclosure material they used on my Travel Trailr), it has a R-value of around 5 or 6 if I recall correctly.

Sorry if you have already said but what are those graphics? Are they custom made or did you buy them from somewhere?
