The Birth of Journee

So we have been looking at campers for over a year and first looked at the skoolie option about eight months ago. When we got the cash and started really looking for a vehicle we came across the perfect bus for us. She is a 1993 Ford B600 with a Carpenter 20 passenger body. As of this writing we picked her up three days ago. The demolition will start any day now.

We named her Journee because of our journey and the French aspect of the name. We are not French but visited Paris (it was my wife's dream from a little girl). We just took "before" pictures today and I will post them as soon as my wife is done with post processing. One of the drawbacks of being married to a photographer, we can't just take pictures and post them.

Initially we will use her for camping trips in and around Florida but eventually would love to go full time.

Come join our journey..

Nice. That's the same number of windows as mine. My guess is it drives nicer than my FE, but mine turns sharper. Turning around on logging roads is important here. Getting stuck on wet grass is kind of a problem though.

Congrats.

A Motor Home is born...

Well we successfully got the title changed to Motor Home! We documented the process in our second video on our YouTube channel.

We survived!

It was a hairy four days leading up to and including the Hurricane. Now we are dealing with flooding. Come watch as we explain how we survived the whole ordeal!

Went into DMV today for the title change. Told her to look up TL13, she did, then she watched your video... gave me the affidavit and I'll type it up and take it and the title in tomorrow to get it changed over.
Next up... getting her insured... who did you guys use?

State Farm was really easy. All over the phone with no issues. I already had other policies with them.

You had it easy!

State Farm made me send pictures. I have insured 3 buses with them and the jokers made me spend a solid 3 minutes taking and emailing pictures on each one of them.

I feel picked on....

I have to send pics when the conversion is done to get my lower RV rates.

State Farm would not inusre a "Converted Bus" for us. Maybe its a Florida thing. We are insured through Allstate.

I had to call around - but was able to get insured through AllState.
It's titled as a Van Conversion right now - I need to get it retitled as an Motorhome. Just waiting until I have time to sit at the DMV for a few hours...

i think it really depends on the state you reside. State Farm would not touch us with a ten foot pole. Flat turned me down as soon as I told them it was a bus I was converting. It didn't make a difference that my title said Motor Home.

I haven't insured her yet... just got the title changed, will call around tomorrow for insurance quotes. Wanted to have the MH title, then I don't have to tell them anything except I am insuring my motorhome

They will ask you the manufacture of the motor home. When they can't find it in their list of RVs they will eventually figure out its a bus. That was how most of my conversations went with insurance companies.

Make sure you let us know how your process works. There seems to be alot of people having insurance issues.

I got the commercial for personal use Progressive policy. then called my agent and said the city won't let me park unless the title says MH. He called back and said that changing the title was fine as long as I didn't change the vehicle's intended use. Well- its a "mobile office, storage, and quarters". So it won't be changing.
