Re: The Black Plague II (The new Jacuzzi Bus)

I had problems with the tranny in my Bonneville. Probably the exact same tranny you had problems with on your Oldsmobile. I had an 83 Olds Delta 88 in high school. It was a big two door. That was a really nice riding car. The engine on it was really greasy though. If I was working on it, I would sometimes wear latex gloves if I was just doing a small job. One day, I was changing the spark plug wires or something. I had the air cleaner off. I got done, cranked the car up and was making sure everything was running fine. I was standing in front of the hood and took my gloves off. The last one popped off my hand and got sucked straight down the carburetor! I didn't know what to do. The car was still running (badly). I just gave it gas and ran that glove through the engine. After a couple minutes, it was running fine again. Drove that car another 15,000 miles before I wrecked it.

well rubber is a petroleum product. I have a Toyota Previa my 2nd one. I think these things are tanks.

Re: The Black Plague II (The new Jacuzzi Bus)

i always drive junk cars. one of the best ones i ever bought was a 1991 VW fox with a 1.8 liter 85 hp. cost me $800. I drove it for about 50K miles, including in excess of 200 miles in the "4 wheel drive only area" of north padre island. It was in incredible snow car.

worst car i ever bought was a 1977 Mercedes 240 D non-turbo 4 cylinder diesel rated at 67hp with a curb weight of over 3000 lb. Had way under 100K miles on the clock. Thats supposed to be a half-million mile car. It left me stranded more times than any other vehicle i've owned.

fastest i ever drove (rode) was 155 mph on a motorcycle i was test driving.

this probably should have been a new thread, doesn't have much to do with jacuzzi buses, but it's a lot of fun to talk about.

Speaking of buses, when are you going to go pick up that articulated bus?

Re: The Black Plague II (The new Jacuzzi Bus)

I too am a big fan of beaters. Just can't see any sense in dropping 15-20 grand on something that an 800 dollar car will do. There are, ofcourse a few rules to follow that come with driving beaters. You must have a spare or two. Our current stable consists of the wife's 97 villager which really isn't a beater, my 800 dollar 91 accord and an 86 toyota mh. the toy actually can and has served daily driver duties for short periods when one of the other beaters was on the DL. Also have an '85 yamaha fj1100 which is old enough to be a beater, but, is to nice for me to call it one.

my best beater deal ever, was, or should I say could have been an '84 corolla that I bought from a guy I worked with for 200 dollars. It drove like new and, I'd probably still be driving it 12 years later if the OL hadn't plowed it into the ass end of another beater, a ratty old nova. Needless to say the corolla lost that bout.

worst beater was a '79 benz 300sd. paid 1900 bucks for it and probably put 3X that into it in a year and a half. it was an awesome old tank, but cost a fortune to keep rolling. got rid of it with over 300K on the clock as I was moving out of state and it was rusting out from under me.

How well does the sprint work while driving down the road? Is it able to change towers without a hiccup. How about range while going state to state?

Re: The Black Plague II (The new Jacuzzi Bus)

I don't know where Jason is tonight, usually he can't get enough skoolie... But I used his laptop on our road trip, so I can give ya some insight.

There was no interruption in the internet service while driving down the road - it works just like a cell phone. In fact we went through a mile long tunnel in PA and it kept service throughout the whole thing (As did my cell phone) Like a responsible driver I recorded the tunnel passing.

There were some places that the internet would slow down - similar to dial up speed, but for the most part it was the same as DSL. The card he has plugs into a USB connector so I don't see why it wouldn't work on a desktop computer.
