Re: The Broccoli Bus

Got the corners skinned. I think that is the hardest part of the sheet metal work. The rear should be comparatively easy, since its just an arch piece to fill the gap.

I am using 20 gauge on the roof, since that's what bluebird used too.

The center section is cut and fitted, just stopping for a little break.

Re: The Broccoli Bus

Sorry no outside pix with all the transition panels, it got dark.
It was a challenge to weld up that high. I ended up balancing the welder on a cooler on the dash, and running the lead out through one of the old upper flasher light holes.

Re: The Broccoli Bus

Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't sure at first how much deconstruction needed to happen before adding the caps. It turns out I removed that whole section of the roof except for a 2" strip to weld to. If someone was crazy enough to do so they could chisel all the rivets off and pull that whole transition cap. I tried to be faithful as possible with what I am capable of to the way the bus is constructed.

Got the bits seam sealed and riveted. Now I need to get the rear cap done. Pretty sure that's just a bunch of rivets, sheet metal, and sealer so we'll see.

Re: The Broccoli Bus

I'll be working on it this weekend. I haven't had a lot of time this week to make progress. I think I've found the solution to the rear end cap and how to make it complete again - I've cut the strangely shaped arc corner pieces to mate up and form the corner.

It's also possible I may be picking up the sheet metal for the sides, not sure yet. I basically need approximately 70 linear feet of 20 gauge sheet metal, that's a lot of steel!

Ready to rivet the last cap panels in after dinner.
There is still a lot of trim work to make it all look proper, so don't worry!

Re: The Broccoli Bus

Here is the outside of the endcap as it is mostly done. It seems to take a long time, but really I have only worked on it a few hours here and there.

Left curved side is fixed with vhb tape and is ready for rivets right side is sort of flapping in the breeze before I pinned it into location.

Second photo shows what the interior looks like.
