Re: The Broccoli Bus

I'm pretty much not going to use any tint at all, and leave it white. Time and weather permitting, I may spray a clear on it, which would help resist UV fading significantly.

You might check HyTech Bus Kote. Made specifically for bus roofs plus is a truly remarkable thermal insulator. Having seen it in action on a tin roof in 110 degree Texas heat, I'm using their insulating beads on all my body panels and will be applying the Bus Kote to my roof.

Re: The Broccoli Bus

My plan is to slather a few layers of stuff up there. Bed liner makes a good durable skin that won't get scraped off, then a thermal barrier paint like bus kote.

Honestly the reason for the bed liner is that its catalyzed and cures in about two hours. After that it can rain and it doesn't matter. If I was in a dry climate right now I'd go for the buskote or solarflex.

For instance, I am currently sort of "trapped" in the bus with an unusual pacific northwest fall monsoon outside.

Drove around the block because I had to pull it out for pressure washing, sanding, and painting.

Re: The Broccoli Bus

Hard to tell, but both sides are now painted to the point shown. The rub rails and the body below the third rub rail (still yellow) will be bedliner black. The roof gets white bed liner. Along the black skirt will be a full length of black tape that retro reflects white.

Hopefully this next weekend the weather will be nice enough to get the front and back complete, or maybe the roof once that materials show up.

All American RE or TC2000/RE?

So I'm sort of confused - do I have a TC2000/RE or an All American?

title says All American
body number when I look it up says all american
has a full galvanized body
8.3 cummins, md3060 trans

and yet, it appears to have a TC2000 "face" on it.

So whats the deal?

I'm guessing they come from essentially the same design. I'll admit, I'm a bit confused about what's going on with those. At first glance the Wikipedia articles make it even foggier..

Re: The Broccoli Bus

Actually, you're bus must be an All-American. It seems the TC/2000 did not come with the 8.3l Cummins as an option.

^ This link clearly shows the 8.3l as being an option for the All-American .

Re: All American RE or TC2000/RE?

According to wikipedia 1998 was the last year of the tc2000/re as well, which makes me suspect even more I've got some sort of weird all american bus with a tc/2000 front end on it.

Re: The Broccoli Bus

Looking at the pics there, I'm going to vote that you have an AA/RE with a lower headlight panel and turn signals from a TC2000. Thinking about how long these buses are in service and how much the mechanics can swap parts of non-runners out back..... seems likely to me that somewhen along the way they probably got swapped. I think it looks cool, but the double headlights off AA are nice too. See what you can find locally... I am sure there is a boneyard with a bus around.

Re: The Broccoli Bus

The BB "RE" is for "Rear Engine" as I recall. And as far as I know, all "All Americans" are front engined. My 40 footer was.

Re: The Broccoli Bus

According to Wikipedia the AA/RE was introduced in 1988, and is still being produced today.

Dogbus

Finally got the holes on the end caps properly closed. Sorry, just a photo of the rear for now.

Drip rail replacement. This replaces the blue bird stamped window eyelids. Two photos at different angles. I haven't painted the rails yet.

Arron,
Nicely done. I'm curious how you installed the upper drip rails. Can you provide an explanation and close-up photo please?
Thanks.
