With the size of your turn signals I don't think you'll have a problem seeing them from 500 feet.. even through the bike wheel...

I got my salvaged bike rack completed and both bikes on it, but it's just not going to work. I was concerned with the strength of the brackets and could not come up with any way that I could be sure the bikes wouldn't trash the paint job on the front of the bus. So back to the drawing board. I don't know how to weld, utmy nephew does, so I will have to hire him build a new design I'm workig on. I think I have a design he can build which will mount on the front, similar to the kind you can buy that go into receiver hitches.

In the mean time, I loaded up the bus with the bikes inside and my dogs and cat, and went to the local RV Resort for the weekend to get over my failure by enjoying the rest of the work I've put into the skoolie and having a few beers

Only Skoolie in the place, but nice people and lot's of questions and likes

I think my big old cat would fit in with your "family" just fine. When I finally get my bus done I'll have to try that campground. It is always fun to see you out and about.

That is one beautiful looking bus. I love the color. I love the rounded corners. I thought mine was good looking, but yours is just so awesome.

The last trip out last weekend it was 103 degrees here. The air conditioner worked it's butt off, but it still got up to aboout 94 inside. I noticed the windows on the sides produced a huge amount of heat transfer. Window awnings would help a lot, but can't afford those right now.

So I found some Solar Window Screen at Home Depot with good reviews. Picked up enough of the screen to do all the side windows for $50. Spent this morning changing them and taking out the regular screen. It's 106 here today, but had to close things up and do some other chores so not sure just how much my efforts will help, but I think anything is better than nothing. When I closed the bus up, it was 11:30 and 100 outside and 86 inside. This stuff is supposed to block 90 percent of the sun's rays hitting the glass...we shall see.

From the inside, the view is still pretty good to the outside and the darker screen does give some privacy and I like the way it looks too. Goes well with the tires and black trim around the wheels.

The emergency exit window on the port side is a single closed pane, so I am going to build a magnetic frame for that window if the solar screen helps because the way the window is positioned on the door, it would be difficult to screw it to the body and make it look nice.

Yes indeed, your bus almost gives me a woody. Did you paint the AC cover as well? Once again, your's is the most beautiful bus I have ever seen.

Also, I am very glad that you removed that bike rack from the front of the bus. It looked like someone had spilled spaghetti on your new suit.

Geeze, you certainly keep that thing clean! Not a spec of dust to be seen and all glimmery and whatnot. Man, the outside of my bus is filthy most of the time.

But it does get me going too when I look at her in the sun

proconsul100, I don't know what the color is called, but the best way it has been described to me is "Soft Serve Brown" like a soft serve Frosty

Ah Bakersfield in the summer---- Back in the early '70's as newlyweds my wife and I lived in an upstairs apt (on Palm by the park). We had no a/c and would wait until 11:00 PM for the house to cool down so we could stand to eat dinner. One August evening when we had gone to the park next door with our supper we ran across a Boy Scout troop who were trying to make the best of a bad situation. Their bus had broken down and they were trying to cook their dinner in the park. They had no idea where they were going to sleep so we invited them all to the appartment for showers and a night on the floor--about 20 of them. Next morning we fixed breakfast for them and helped them back to their repaired bus and they were on their way! We got a very nice thank-you letter from the troop when they returned to their homes in LA. We sort of survived on coffee the rest of the month as the food was pretty much gone. I'd do it again in a heartbeat and we've been repaid by others 100 times over. Ah Bakersfield.

I've been looking for something "artsy-fartsy" to cover my "Flashing Brown" lights on the front and rear, but really didn't find anything I liked. So I made some designs on my computer and printed them. Then I glued them to some old cd's I had and sprayed them with lot's of clear sealant, then glued them up on the lights. I am a fan of the Route 66 stuff, so the rear lights have a 66 design. The front one's are a design I made of Bakersfield, my home town. Happy with the way they turned out. The lights still work, so now I have flashing Route 66's and flashing Bakersfield's.

Also added a locking door handle to the rear trunk. I'm ready for the next campout I think.

Hey BC i have been meening to ask you, how did you get the carpet to stay put wile installing it on your cealing i have tried using shorwe curtin rods like jespers suggested but it is starting to look like i am going to need 3 people

any suggestions?

I was able to salvage a blower fan from a Crown that was being crushed and sent to bus heaven. Spent this morning installing it in my compartment on the dash above the step well. I cut a 2 x2 hole in the bottom of the compartment so the air would draw from inside the bus and exhaust to the outside near the front bumper. This motor is quite a bit more powerful than the roof vent I have above the living area, and much quieter. I will get some dryer ducting tomorrow and duct from the fan intake to the vents just to the right of the compartment door.

I hooked it up temporarily with 12 volts from the step well light. Works really well and will help to ventilate the front area of the bus.
