I'm considering plumbing in that shower wall, so want some solid structure there. I did move the opening to around 21"

MUCH better. 16" is just too tiny.

Making progress and running into more issues to deal with. In the bunk room I used a 1 x 10 for a front plate, had intended on using a 1 x 8 for the upper bunk. But that takes up too much headroom from the lower bunk. Cant raise the upper bunk because window is as high as it can go. Looks like I'll end up with a 1 x 6 backed by a 2 x 4 to handle the upper bunk. I'll have to sink the mattress in the frame work so it doesn't cover the window. Continued in the bathroom.

Facial right? Would be nice it they are all the same just for looks but oh well. If you're talking structural, a 2x6 isn't going anywhere under kid weight. I dunno about a 1x6 tho.

I would back the 1 x 6 with a 2 x4 to lay the bunk ply on, 1 x 6 is just fascia and not structural. Don't mind that the upper frame work will be narrower, need the height on the bottom to clear the wheel well and have some storage behind it.

Alright, I decided on 2 x 3's for a number of reasons. the studs on the back will be secured in metal framework, so no chances of bowing down. The side pieces will be braced from behind. The were on sale for $.78. It also gave me another 1" to play with. I'll have 1/4" underlayment for the ceiling of the lower bunk attached leaving arouns a 1/2" lip. The floor on the top sits about 1-1/4" below the fascia so the mattresses don't slide out.

Easy enough to cut some slots to add a couple of giant popsicle sticks sticking up if the mattresses decide to slide out while on the road.

Had a terrible time driving 3k miles with a $10 radio and 4-$2 speakers in the bus. So I bought a set of these vintage headrest speakers to help out.

You know it's taking too long on the build when the birds decide it's good place for a home.

lol - it says that you aren't spending enough time on the bus - I tell dog owners that if they notice they are putting on weight, it means they aren't walking their dog enough - lol - be surprised how many say that's true - lol

As a former apiarist, getting injected with tiny doses of venom comes with the course. My Italian honey bees were just protecting their home and hard-won stockpiles.
Yellow Jackets are bad-tempered, vilely aggressive little bee-yotches that I have zero qualms about chemically nuking into their next incarnations!
DIE!!!! MUAH-HA-HA!!!

often had to clear out yellow jacket nests when I was painting - I swear they only go after who ever it is that is sending out the fear pheromones because I never got stung taking out wasp nests - one of my workers was deadly fearful of them and those mean little bastards would home in on him and chase him - it was kind of funny really - had one job that had a wasp nest inside of the concrete foundation blocks - wasp spray was doing nothing because they were too far into the blocks for the spray to reach and I was working over head of them, my arms up painting the sauphets in a very vulnerable position - I borrowed the vacuum cleaner from the lady of the house and propped the hose up so the intake was over the hole the wasps were coming and going from - less than 10 minutes and they were gone

I don't know about the "fear" thing with yellow jackets.
I was taking a nap on my back deck. Sound asleep and one of the evil creatures stung me on my upper lip. Not my favorite way to wake from a nap....

yeah, if one lands on you and you do something to frighten it, it will sting you - one landed on my 'love handle' one time - didn't sting me until I put my arm down by my side and trapped it there - love handles are sensitive !!! - lol
