The Bus Corner

After getting the bus off of jacks I moved it to the other side of the shop on the new concrete. I also moved most of the parts and pieces for the bus onto pallet racking in the back corner of the shop which will now be "The bus corner".

I'm going to get back to working on the interior of the bus to get it ready to be spray foam before winter.

Force 10 Stove

I have been watching Ebay, Craigslist and Marketplace for a marine stove. I was hoping to find either a 3 burner Force 10 or Dickinson. Last week I came across a 4 burner Force 10 that was reasonably price so I jumped on it. It got here today and survived shipping pretty well. The Force 10s have piezo ignition, thermocouples on the burners, thermostat oven temp, a broiler burner and the oven door slides under the stove when you open it. It will go up on a shelf untill I'm ready for it. Here are some pictures.

Propane. The nuclear unit with the lead shielding was too heavy to ship.

Well I didn't get the bus ready for spray foam before winter. Having a busy summer and fall with no rain days I had no time to work on the bus. This winter has been busy as well so all I have manged to accomplish is finish welding up my interior framework and riveting my window delete panels. I think I will change my plan and reseal and reinstall the windows next so I can check for leaks before starting the interior.

I haven't had much progress (read time and motivation) on my bus either. Glad to see you're back on it. Excited to see how that stove setup works for you. I was eyeing up a diesel stove similar to yours to go along with my diesel heat/hot water setup. Right now the stove is the only thing that will require propane on my bus.

The cook stove I got is propane. I agree with you post from your build thread that a diesel cook stove would be a pita to light up when you want to cook. My stove will likely be my only propane appliance on the bus if I go with this beauty for a heater.

http://dickinsonmarine.com/product/a...diesel-heater/

The benefits of this heater are it uses little to no electricity and has heating coils to heat coolant which can heat my domestic water and be circulated through my floor heat and bus heaters.

Dickinson also makes really nice propane heater but I don't think they would kick out enough BTUs and don't have the water heating coils.

I also have an espar hydronic heater that came with the bus I hope to get working. I plan to use it as a back up / additional heat source and for heating domestic water when it's not necessary to heat the interior of the bus.

Interior Paint Day!

I got the interior pressure washed. The rust on the floor converted and galvanized etched with phosphoric acid. The seat bolt holes and nail holes in the floor are patched with JB weld. The putty sticks work great for the seat bolt holes while the paste works well for the smaller nail holes. It looks kind of like a bunch of chewing gum stuck to the floor.

I used rustoleum 3800 paint. It is a water based acrylic enamel that is compatible with galvanized metal and requires no primer. So far it looks like it went on pretty well. Unfortunately I only bought 2 gallons which got me from the back of the bus to just about the front wheel wells before I ran out. I just ordered 2 more gallons so I can finish the first coat, touch up the walls and ceiling as necessary and put a second coat on the floor.

So FYI if you have a 35 foot bus you will need at least 3 gallons of paint to put on coat on the floor walls and ceiling.

Looking good, Ted, but I think your fonts might be getting a bit out of control.

Thanks! I think I fixed the font. I post on my phone and the text size often looks too small.

While patiently waiting for my paint to show up I decided to start figuring out how to mount my generator. Since it is designed to mount under a Sprinter van I have more than enough room under the bus. I decided since I have the room I would make spacers to move the air deflector 2 inches back to give the radiator a little more room to breathe. I somehow even had a rattle can of matching paint!

Hopefully either some paint shows up this week or I can find time to make it over to my steel supplier to pick up material for building brackets for the generator and my underbody storage frame.

The paint showed up but I haven't had a long enough block of time to make it worthwhile getting the sprayer out. I ended up with a little case of the Covid on Wed which led to a couple days of being miserable and the last couple days of feeling crappy.

I decided that it would be best to move my self isolation to the shop when I felt up to it. Working a couple hours at a time I was able to get started on the frame work for my underbody storage and get all the holes drilled in the bus frame for the support brakets.

Whoever said money can't buy happiness never bought a mag drill. After renting one and having several projects where I wish I had one, I finally bought one. It is wonderful! So far I've drilled 10 holes in the bus frame and another 12 in the brackets. I could have used my regular drill press for the brakets but it is way easier to clamp the them to my welding table and then use the mag drill.

yes i love a mag drill.
have used quite a few but always rentals.
i thought about buying a milwaukee one craiglist near me until i thought about?
the thing looked almost brand new with a case and the price was to good to pass up?
so i figured it was stolen or didnt belong to the one selling it so i passed?
still think about it though.

Interior paint finsihed!

I had time Sunday morning to put the second coat of paint on the bus interior. I finished the first coat and the second with "navy gray" paint. It was about half the price of the "dune sand" and was available. The color doesn't really matter since it is all going to get covered up anyway. In total there are now 4 1/2 gallons of paint on the interior of the bus.

Next on the list for the interior is xps foam insulation for the floor.

XPS Foam

I started insulating the floor. I'm using 2 inch formular 250 xps insulation and loctite 3x premium construction adhesive. The loctie is a moisture cure polyurethane that plays nice with the xps.

I use a saw guide that clamps onto the foam as a straight edge and a utility knife to make the cuts. I then spread a nice even coat of adhesive on the bus floor by running a large bead and then spreading it with a 1/4 inch v-notch adhesive spreader. This may be overkill but I am trying to minimize voids where water could get between the xps and the floor. Unfortunately it takes almost four 28 oz tubes of adhesive to cover the area for one 48 x 89 inch sheet of xps. It almost costs as much for the adhesive as it does for the insulation. After setting the xps on the adhesive I put some weight on top of the xps to push it down flat. I use some scrap xps to help spread out the weight. Fortuantly I have several tons of hydromulch at my shop for my landscaping business. Each bag weighs 50 lbs makes a great paper weight.

Nice work Ted. Hope it works out.. I wonder if the bus that have rubber directly glued to the metal floor still rust so badly as the ones with plywood often seem to do.

Ted give me the spec's on that generator. Name brand, Output, package size.

I have been looking around for a small genny for my bus. All I am finding seems to be a little bigger package size than I want or Can fit.

This model has been discontinued but I believe another company is manufacturing something similar for sprinter vans.
