How much paint did it take to get the paint work done with the 3 coats on your bus. I ask because I am considering buying the beads and adding them to elastomeric paint I can buy locally and not pay to ship.
We bought the beads and mixed them in with white elastomeric paint you can buy at lowes or home depot (or local supplier), didn't want to pay for shipping weight. We ordered 12 lbs of beads and still have 6 lbs left over for another coat down the road (we painted our floor with the same thing as our roof, reflects heat right?)

Yea. The bead board was hard enough for me and I had a helper and my roof is not raised. You are a trooper.

I can't wait to paint my bus. I've had bus kote waiting to go on for 8 months now. I wanted to do it befor winter but I realized I should paint the sides first.
Keep up the good work.

You may want to shoot me for saying this, but now that you've painted the roof white, I think your bus would look better if you lowered the rain gutter on the raised section of the bus to be on the same plane as the gutters on the front and rear non-raised sections, then smooth out the line where the original rain gutter was to blend it in, and then continue the white paint down to the level of the new rain gutter.

It might pan out like this:
- cut off the raised section gutter and smooth out the transition line
- have a metal shop make you a new gutter the correct length to connect the front and rear sections
- Install the new gutter and then re-paint to cover the areas you modified

It would be extra work, but I think it would look awesome!

Maybe someone could use a photo editing program to render what it would look like. I don't have a program handy right now that would do it justice.

You are right, it would be easier to shoot you.

My roof steel ends at the gutter. The side steel slides up under it. The only connection are the rivets.

I've got nothing in this but, I can use PS and although it would be a lot of work. I think Dan has a point.
Too bad it's not this easy.

I suppose you could just paint it white and then paint a 3-D looking dark line to imply a gutter...

I disagree with the looks of moving the rain gutter down........I like the hitch in the line.... in fact I think you should move the rub rails up in the middle to match it and trim a bit off the side skirts as well..... give it an inch-worm type look!! Also will keep people wondering how you bent a bus!

I just got to the bend in my ceiling with the breadboard and I'm not happy. I really thought it would bend the curve. I might take it all down now.

I can see what you are saying. I think if there was an angle in the back to match the angle in the front, that would be the easiest thing to do and make it look better.

Edit: what I mean is to just make the gutter follow the angle of the front where the white paint comes down, and then do the same in the rear, so both front and rear gutters make the 45 degree downturn to connect the lower sections, then fill in the little triangle in the rear with white paint to complete the look.

I almost did the same thing. As you can see I made my transition at the bend. The gap I have will be mostly covered by cabinets and such, so I'm not too worried.

The main reason I don't want to move the rain gutter down is the advantage the roof raise gives you, because now the windows will be at eye level.

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER

I was just at the lumber yard and we talked about any and all possibilities for bending plywood. And there is only one type that will work and it's 53$ a sheet. I've heard that lauan plywood is available with all the grain in the plys going the same direction so that it bends easy but no one there had ever seen that. I wonder if I flip the bead board over if the grooves will act like a kerf and will allow for bending.

Check around your area for "Bender Board" --- Used by cabinet makers for curved work. Comes with kerfs cut all the way across the back. Nifty stuff.

I had decent luck bending 1/4" oak plywood. There are pictures of the process about 3/4 of the way down the page on my build thread: http://www.skoolie.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=466764
