These are load range G.
The higher load on the 275/80 may be related to the higher air pressure it is designed for.
Three year old Toyo 295/75R22.5
6175 pounds at 110 psi.
New Uniroyal 275/80R22.5
6610 pounds at 120 psi.
The steer axle is allowed 12,500 pounds.
6,175 x 2 = only 12,350
6,610 x 2 = 13,220.
And I thank you, Brewerbob, to refrain from banal juvenile body-parts humor on my thread.

You are the last one I thought would be bothered. There are just some jobs you don't want exposed skin; welding, frying bacon, etc. Playing with lots of moving parts wouldn't be my idea of fun.

Thanks, Gustav and EastCoastCB! You win the Millicent Chronicles today.
Though... this is as good a time as any for a safety message:
In fact, I was mildly injured once, when a pants-leg caught in a #40 chain drive on one of my larger pedal-vehicles.
And I learned my lesson.
Now... an update.
When I built the tailgate, I used garage door springs and wire-rope and pulleys to counterbalance the weight.
But I accepted a misalignment of the fixed pulleys, figuring it might be OK -- at least for a while.
Well, that "while" expired late last year.
I have oiled these wire-ropes and pulleys religiously, but the edge of the pulleys still tore up the wire-rope, slowly but surely. It took ten years, but when one of them snapped, it was a surprise, because it did not look "all that bad" yet!
So, now we know... frayed steel wire rope needs to to be replaced sooner than one might think.
Here you can see the problem -- with the new wire-rope in place.
I need to realign the pulley axle so there is no rubbing. Easy enough to do. "One of these days".

Hello, Smokey.
Please fill me in on what we are talking about. I have been elsewhere engaged for a while.
"Rosebud" oxy-acetylene torch and over-rich flame, that I understand. But applied to what work-piece?

It was the avatar I used on another forum, before I owned a bus. I haven't changed it because it will become one with the bus later. Or are you clueless to what it is? If so, don't feel bad, it's one of a kind.

Speaking of scooters & engines...
I just came across a pic of a bike I built and raced back in the early '80's. Didn't even know I had one till cleaning out a drawer a few days ago. This was right before I swapped the top end out for half a TZ750.
Fun bike that was a giant killer.

It started as a 62 Harley Sportster XLCH. In the mid 70's I acquired a set of trick prototype heads similar to the Harley race bike. With those I was able to replicate the factory XR750tt bike only mine is a 1327cc and only weighs 332lbs.

Elliot, Could you mount that pulley in a shackle or u bolt that could swivel or tilt as the angle changed? Just an idea, not sure how your whole set up works.

I certainly could. But the cable does not change angle much in operation. I was simply too lazy to drill the axle holes at an angle. Reckon I will do that... some day.
On the motorcycle; the heads, that's what puzzled me -- the rear head, specifically. I saw the black and orange jacket you are wearing, but....

In other news....
Update on mysterious alternator noise.
It was not the alternator at all, but the belt. The belt was not very old, and I cannot see any fault with it, and the pulleys are nicely lined up -- but a new belt cured the noise.
This... after I took the alternator to an auto electric expert. He took one look at it and said "There's nothing wrong with this alternator -- it's your belt making that awful noise you describe". And I had to "force him" to accept a few bucks for the diagnosis.
The man has all my auto electric business for life.

Sweet bike indeed. I used to have a stock (but excellent condition) 1982 BMW R100 -- and miss it.
