Well, we did it!

Bought a bus today, should be delivered middle of next week after I finish clearing space for it!

The bus is a 1998 Thomas MVP with the high ceiling, Cat 3116, and an Allison MD3060 transmission. The bus was under contract with Miami Dade County up until this morning when I bought it and has been inspected every 28 days. new tires all around, new brakes, new battery, new front end alignment and tie rods, new radiator, water pump and other odds and ends. The underside and frame are clean with no rust (it has been in Miami its whole life), and the inside is in good shape!

Here she is:

Congrats! Did you buy it directly from the County, or from a dealer?

I bought it from a guy that runs charter buses for the county. It was reaching the end of its lifespan.

Cool! A bus from my hometown ... although this one wasn't even built until eleven years after I graduated public school.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

Well, that is a lot of money, but it's not a rip-off (I paid $7000 for my bookmobile) if the mileage is low. It looks brand new.

I looked at a lot of similar buses around here and online, and while they were cheaper (usually around $4500-$5500), they were in rough shape, rust, old tires, old batteries, etc and I figured it was easier just to spend a little more upfront to get a cleaner bus.
