Allow uploading webp images

GIF has some serious limitations, most modern web browsers now support webp images which are higher quality and smaller size. Its not linear, but generally I can make webp images quadruple the resolution, double the framerate and twice the length for the same file size.

I would upload a comparison, but it isn't allowed. Its a fairly overwhelming difference.

Thanks for the suggestion - taken under advisement. Currently you can attach files with the following extensions: gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png psd txt bmp.

webp is still not fully supported by Edge and so this causes viewing issues. Perhaps biggest issue is that this boards CMS isn't compatible - images would not display a thumbnail - just a black box. In the coming year we'll be changing software platforms and accommodating webp should be possible.

AFAIK Edge is switching to a Chromium based backend, and should support it.

As a workaround, you could allow the extension to be uploaded as a raw file, then I could use the link to the file to populate an "image url". It would be two-step instead of one step, but it might work?

Either way, thanks for the consideration!
