This may be 101 stuff known to everybody, but it might make a good sticky;

The Forum-native search is horrendous. The "powered by google" version is excellent.

I started out trying to use the forum-native one and never found anything and got told to "go search" a lot

Your diagram is great!

I mostly agree with you, but I do find the forum's Advanced Search function to be fairly useful. Sometimes I remember that a particular forum member said something, but not where, when, or sometimes even what they said. The advanced search lets you filter by stuff like user name or date, which can sometimes be very helpful.
