I have a 1989 Internaitonal School Bus with the 7.3 Diesel and Allison Automatic Transmission, can anyone tell me anything about the transmission, what model number it may be? Allison makes lots of transmissions. You almost certainly have either an AT-545 or an MT-643. The AT-545 is the most common because it is cheaper. They are both good reliable transmissions. The MT-643 has a locking torque converter so it is more efficient. The AT-545 is always turning so it robs some power and creates more heat.

The 7.3 was used in Ford pickups and is either loved or hated. It is not the strongest engine ever produced.
