55 gal drum heater question

Has anyone considered this for a way to heat water when hooked into shore power? Looks like an easy solution to me...

I did not see a price, but sure seems like overkill for camping, most RV water heaters are 6 gallon Great idea, but I think about 10 gallon would be more than the average camper uses at any given time, ie wash dishes, shower etc....

I use one of those to heat up WVO before filtering; it raises the temperature of 55 gal of veggie oil by about 10-15 degrees per hour of heating time. Of course my barrel is in an insulated box (R13).

In the RV, we have an AC/LP water heater. We usually have electric included in our site rental.

Divide cost of Propane per gallon by 22 to get equivalent cost of electric. If propane is cheaper, then use propane. If electric is cheaper, then use electric.

Our old water heater (which sprung a tank leak so we had to replace it) was an AC/LP unit also. If you have a LP heater, then you can add either a Hott Rod or a Lightening Rod. These electrical units thread into the anode rod hole in the LP water heaters.

Lightening Rod is generally cheaper but Hott Rod is easier to find. I have seen the Lightening Rod at the local ACE Hardware.
