Re: Adhesives for Insulation

I keep 3m 8088 spray adhesive on hand at all times for use in upholstery work for the hot rods.. It doesn't work on metal well in heat in my experience, if one is only using the adhesive as the fastener..

Re: Adhesives for Insulation

I have not used the 3M adhesive before so I don't know how well that works. I did use the Liquid Nails on my ceiling. I glued styrofoam type insulation to the ceiling and then carpet onto that. I live in an area where summe temperatues go above 100 degrees and the roof takes a lot of heat. So far, everything is holding up well and its been up there about two years now.

Re: Adhesives for Insulation

there is more than one strength for liquid nail now. I use the high strength stuff, and even with the regular stuff it will hold on walls and so forth. Another adhesive to consider is the gallon cans of that extremely sticky rubber contact cement... I often use that on carpet squares.. it is VERY sticky and thick when applied with a metal spaula type tool

You're right on about the different strengths. I should have mentioned I used the Heavy Duty strength when I applied the ceiling areas and also used that strength on some of the paneling I put up on the walls.

Re: Adhesives for Insulation

They make rubber cement in gallon cans. You can get it at the carpet stores and i think the last gallon i bought was at home depot. I started using it many years ago when thin carpet with designs cut in it were put on some commercial building walls.
