Air Dryer making unusual noise

So, my air dryer is a CR Brakemaster Model 62. It is making some rough noises as it gets closer to 120 psi. I also noticed it trying to do a little purging before 120 paint but then it builds and purges. I'm thinking that it may be time to replace this air dryer? I'm assuming it's as old as the bus (29 years old).

I haven't found much info on this item and believe that SKF now makes the replacement. I guess the real question is: do I try to figure out what is causing the is sound on the dryer and replace several hard to find parts OR do I just try to get a new replacement and put it on. Thoughts l, comments, and opinions are appreciated.

You could try replacing the filter first.

this is one i havent seen... most of the older busses had the Haldex or the Bendix AD-4.. definitely replace the cartridge first...

Just wonder if a almost 30 year old dryer needs replacing? I'll look for a filter to replace it. I contacted SKF, who makes air dryers. I believe they took over for the company that originally made this dryer. Waiting on a reply
