I love when friends leave that thing on when I'm over. I've added funny stuff to Johns cart when he's not in the room.

I know it's tough to say you're taking a stand against bulk collection surveillance if you're purposefully not getting an alexa or google home thing but still carry a smartphone.. but that's where I draw the line.

What's the scope of this project? I've been kicking around the idea of putting a bus control system together but most of it would be related to managing the house side of things.

I switched to a dumbphone around this time last year. I don't care how bad you think the surveillance is, in reality it is likely much worse.

I've been trying to integrate https://cmusphinx.github.io/ into my projects so I can get the benefits of voice recognition without the drawbacks of big brother.

My build also features automation from the ground up for all appliances and lighting, check out my build page. All sources on GitHub:

When it's cold (or hot) I can start my truck by pushing a button on the key fob, the system has excellent range.
I don't own a cell phone, There have been occasions when it would have been handy but
I don't feel the need for instant/constant connectivity.

Brokedown - mine is a Glass cockpit. of course the data tablets I have now. but also replacing my hard switch panel with glass touch panel for heaters, lights ,etc.. connected to the internet.. the internet portion uses an ATT cell link in a MikroTik router... running off a separate deep cycle battery.. most like;y with a single small solar panel to charge said battery if the bus is parked in daylight..
controls for starting the webasto and / or the engine..
right now my test setup uses respberry Pi 4's with openHab as the software to control the relays..

my bus is stored in a storage facility thats about 10 minutes away... I will be able to read the telemetry from the computer and see what the oil and water temp is too to know if the block heater works correctly...
my car and truck both have built in fully connected Internet remote starters from the factory... its more a fun project than anything .. I dig this stuff..
