Thanks for the link. It’s helpful in multiple ways.

When I called international with the VIN, I was told it was 230@540. According to this link, that’s no a valid configuration. Maybe I got confused with all the VINs I gave him over all of the calls.

Anyway... if you have the low end engine of 195@520, you are absolutely right.

On mine, if I have the 215@540 then my sweet spot is around 2000- 2100RPM. Where torque and HP are close to the max. If he engine I have is 230@620 then it’s closer to 2000RPM.

I was also -thinking- about a propane injection system but that’s far down the road after it’s built out and only if I decide full weight plus towing my Jeep needs just a little more. More research I required for that.

Thanks EastCoastCB for the insight there. You are right about gobs of torque and their purpose built application.

Of course past model years of the DT466E may have had different HP/Torque options. I am not sure what year that cut sheet is from.

The 2500's 1st gear is 3.51 to 1 so I would think if my bus end up being light (ie:mostly empty and short) that a steep rear end may be fine.

60-65MPH in the sweet spot would be great. If the tires are 38" a 4.66 rear end would be 62MPH @ 1900RPM in 5th. (1900RPM in 1st = 13MPH)

Sounds like a clam cruising speed.

11R22.5 tires are 42.3” tall. Not sure what tires you have.

UPDATE:

Tires are 11R22.5...

Specific DT466E is 210HP/520lbs (makes sense with the 2500 trans). The VIN decode has the trans listed as "wide range". Not sure what that is. They will test drive it and report the 60MPH rpm.

Here are the specs on mine:

1998 Bluebird Handybus
Cummins Diesel Engine
A545 Transmission
Air Brakes
9 Window Length
Flat Nose
Handicap Lift Door
24' x 7 1/2' interior living space (not including drivers area)
28' x 8'ish Exterior dimensions
Ceiling will probably end up around 6'4" when floor is fully installed --

I'll try to post my floor plans later today-- Our floor plan space in the workshop was a hot mess from yesterday so I haven't had a chance to take a picture.

However, my floor plan includes a queen sized bed, full bathroom with toilet and shower, small desk area, full kitchen, and 6 1/2 ft couch that will pull out to a guest bed.
So pretty much covers all of my needs for a living space =]
Finally I found someone who is doing what I wondered if I could do in a bus that size! If you ever get either a floor plan or pics it would be much appreciated.

I live in it full time right now!
I can try to post some of those pictures today or tomorrow.
I haven't done the finishing work or the cabinetry but I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

Here are a couple of pictures of the bus itself--they're not super high quality.

Im home for the holidays and I didn't drive the homestead over here with me (because one lane icy highways in Idaho are terrifying in a vehicle that holds everything I own).

I have been planning on taking more once I'm closer to done with my finish work but it probably wont happen until the spring at this point. I can try and draw you approximately what my floor plan is from an overhead view if that's helpful to you!
