Re: Broke Down In Nashville Need advice ASAP

I'm sure this is too late.
Limping it home with a bad water pump can work as long as the bearings are not bad on the water pump and it only leaks. This is done by stoping every half hour to an hour depending how much leaks and leaving the cap loose so you don't build up pressure. And then lots of water since there is no need to waste antifreeze when it is just leaking right out. I find it highly unlikely that both water pump and fan clutch went bad at the same time. I personaly would change the thermostat first and see what happens. A blown hose could also be the problem. If it where me I wouldn't pay them to do a job that I can do in a few hours. Although with a flat front removing the raideator is possible and would take a few more hours. I always bring tools with me if I am in the bus or the truck just in case. You can always by the tools you need to do the job and save yourself some money.

Re: Broke Down In Nashville Need advice ASAP

I had issues with my Genesis flat nose that suddenly started to overheat. Found out the air operated shutters on the front of the radiator were not opening up. I unhooked the air line from the shutters and didnt have any more problems. It can be fixed for $75 for a temp sending unit that screws into the block that tells the shutters to open up. Might want to check that out.

Instead of replacing the clutch did you think about just going to an autoparts store and buying an aftermarket electric fan, I put one on my bus because it would get hot on long trips and now it runs cool all day.

Even cheaper than parts store electric fans are the two speed fans out of a Ford Taurus. They move somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 cfm on high speed. They can be had for $20 or less.

So what was the cause of the over heating?
