Bus Door...to fold or not....

My BB bus has a nice HD commercial full glass door installed, seems to work good

....my Carpenter has the tradition folding door...which I kinda like except for being a little drafty....

On my ward the one half of the door folds out and one half folds in. I already have problems getting the door open when I am parked next to the curb. Especially now that there are drifts everywhere. If I had a full door that opened out I don't think I would ever be able to get out in that type of situation.

How about some details. At first look, I would have concerns with security.

my bus door folds in half, and is also a bit drafty. I can't seem to get the bottom of the door to seal......i place a folded towel over the crack at the bottom when i go places during the winter. As far as security, i think that door is as secure as any other. Locked doors only keep the honest people out.

I lock my spit door with a pair of vice grips from inside below the handle. There is no way you are going to get in through that door.

He may have been asking about the door on my 1965...it is a commercial grade door, very sturdy and actually seals quite well...probably not any easier/harder to break into than a folding door...

Bus Doors

All three of my buses have the BB body, and all of the doors work just the same. The 86 Jimmy has a (stock from the manufacturer) neat little keylock that is called a "Vandalism Lock," but it isn't really anything that would deter a determined burglar.

I LOVE the way the Ward buses' doors work....one in and one out, or two in, or two out....I've seen several variations on the same scheme depending on the size of the bus (long or short). They are no more secure than the other makers' doors, but they do provide more room to get into and depart from the bus. Close curb operation or in drifts would be difficult....

I may use a flat metal bar about 1/4 inch thick that will go all the way across the doors and secure with a large wing nut or hasp and lock arrangement when we are inside the bus. This is really unnecessary, as we always have at least one dog inside with us, and s/he will alert John Colt of anyone who approaches.
