bus starters

Are there any diffrences in bus starters and car starters. My bus has a 427 motor, can I just get one from auto store?

Re: bus starters

Considering its a gas engine, I would think you would be able to. If you have a Napa in your area. Try calling them.

Re: bus starters

There are some differences. I know, for instance, that the tall deck industrial motors use a different water pump. I'm not sure about the starters though. If I get a chance tomorrow I will do some digging.

Re: bus starters

the starter motor it's self is just a hi-torque delco starter motor, the nosecone and bendix drive need to be compatable with the application, does it bolt to the bellhousing, 3 bolt pilot guided flange type mount? or does it bolt to a pad on the block, 2 bolts up either staggered or inline plus a bracket up to the block at the front of the starter? any good autoparts store or quality auto electric rebuilder should be able to help. Heat is the enemy of these starters, protect your starter with a sheet metal shield between the starter and the exhaust pipes.
