? Bus vs. Winnebago?

Hello All.
New guy here.
I'm finally going to part with my VW bus and get something bigger, something with climate control and a toilet.
My inner hippie has always wanted to convert a school bus, but my pragmatic side leans toward a motorhome that is already finished.
The more research I do the harder it is to choose.
I know that buses are built better and stronger while still being cheaper than a motorhome, but by time I buy a generator, toilet, sink, tanks, stove, fridge, etc,... they don't really seem much cheaper at all.
Fortunately, I would enjoy installing everything, as a hobby, but still.
I do want a bus, but I need help thinking of why it would be better than a Winnebago.
I know they are cool, but cool hasn't done me much good with my VW.
So tell me, why did you think a bus was a better idea?
Thanks for your time.

Re: ? Bus vs. Winnebago?

welcome
besides the obvious over built and way stronger with bigger engines, frame, suspension and brakes and tires.....

you will have a new platform into which you will put what you want and where you want it, you will know how old and what condition everything is in

if you buy a winny (i am assuming and older one) everything will be old say 10 or 20 years old, if and when the parts need replacing...might be fun to find them or replacements that fit in the holes provided

this is just a few reasons..... ;wink:

Say, that's pretty good.
If I build a bus I'll know everything is new and put together properly.
Huge.
Say,... is that why about 75% of the older motorhomes have been gutted?
They all look as if the owner got tired of the dated style, started ripping everything out, then realized it was more than they could chew and decided to sell.
Maybe they were trying to replace worn appliances and accessories and failed?

Re: ? Bus vs. Winnebago?

My parents RV was bought five years old for 25k. It is a gasser and gets 4-5 mpg. The roof needed resealing at five years old. Its pretty nice, but I expect my bus to do better in every regard. Except maybe headroom, but I can live with that.
RV's are often worn out by 80-100k miles, Buses are just getting broken in...
