Whats a good kind and color of carpet?



My bus pretty high traffic and is used for just about everything including camping. I've wanted to put down carpet for along time but it maybe too much work to keep looking better than what I have now.



I also plan to carpet the ceiling instead of putting up a headliner.

Hi Steve,



No definitive answers here...I'm still seaching for the right stuff my self. My sister and her husband just installed cork flooring (in their case, 1' x 2' rectangles) over the concrete slab in their basement. It followed the uneveness of the floor just fine, it's really nice looking (can be stained or painted) and it's warm (even in stocking feet). I guess in Europe they've used cork flooring for over a hundred years and a lot of museums do too. Here's a link for the flooring.



I'm also looking into Marinedeck 2000 with uses cork strips (maybe 2.5" wide) alternating with poly strips (ony 1/8" wide); ends up looking like a Teak & Holly deck in a nice boat. Really durable as the cork is rubberized and the poly stips take a beating.



For the ceiling in the bus I'm going to use roll cork (from the same place that sells the cork rectangles ) as it's thin, has a good R-value for it's thickness, it's a good sound insulation product, and it's light. Again, it can be stained or painted; I haven't decided which since the natural color of the cork is pretty light but maybe an even lighter coat of paint will be in order.

The party bus also recieves it's fair share of traffic. I've finally come to the conclusion that it is impossible to keep the carpet clean. I've been thinking that rugs would perhaps help reduce the dirt problem I've cleaned the carpet several times in the past year. Sometimes with a wet towel and a bucket of carpet cleaner/water followed by the shop vac. I've also used a "rug doctor" which did an excellent job.



Before the idea and instalation of the hot tub, the entire bus was carpeted. Post hot tub, i've removed more and more carpet from the hot tub area and replaced it with peel and stick tile due to the water issue. Wet carptet is bad! I've considered removing all the carpet, but I like carpet on my bare feet! I also like the sound dampening and insulating characteristics.



I think i'm just going to replace the carpet once a year. I can get used North American International Auto Show carpet cheap, and it's good quality.



Carpet is difficult to keep clean, but in the end I think the benefits outweigh the negative aspects. For me, replacing the floor once a year isn't such a bad proposition.

i'm going to check into cork for the cieling. That sounds like a wonderful idea ! I've been trying to come up with a good solution to the ceiling problem.



There are so many people out there way more creative than I am !!!

Since I have sooo many cabinets to trim around on the ceiling I think carpet squares is the easiest solution.
