converter

I just bought a converter combo with the AC and DC breaker/fuse boxes. The main portion appears to be fit for a 2x4 wall, but the converter with the cooling fan sticks out at the bottom. Does the converter fan have to be clear to the living space or can it get enough ventilation if it is hidden under a cabinet? BTW just over 150 bucks on ebay compared to 280 in RV catalogs.
