Hello all, I am planning to use Henry's Tropicool and am curious if Dicor lap sealant will stick to it ok. I am planning to put the Henrys on first then install Maxxair fan and use dicor to seal around it. Will this work?
It will not. Tropicool is silicone and Dicor won't stick to it. Me personally (not that you asked so my apologies for hijacking), I'm doing my roof in flat white enamel so things like lap sealant have something to stick to.
I think Tropicool can be applied last over the sealant, but you'll have to dig into that or wait for a more knowledgeable member to reply.
What you need to do is peel back the Tropical about 2" around the cutout for the Maxxair fan with a razor blade, then decor sealant when you install the fan, then back over with Tropicool to seal everything up again. We did this, it worked fine.
I give up on trying to convince people NOT to use silicone on their roofs
Silicone has its place. We covered the two holes where the emergency exit hatches were located and then cut two new holes for air conditioner and maxxair fan, plus added two long unistrut rails that are bolted through the roof every 25" or so. With all of that, having a single flexible membrane to seal everything up was a reasonable decision. So far it has worked out just fine.
