Question Driver's Seat Issues

Hi! I did a search and didn't find anything. I'm looking at buying a 1984 International 1700, but ran into a problem where I'm too fat to steer it, and the seat is already pressed as far back as it will go because of where they put a wall.

If anyone has driven a similar make/year I'd appreciate any input you can offer. I can cut the wall out if the sear will move back further, but if it won't I'll have to pass on the bus.

For reference I'm 5'4 and 240lbs. My partner is 6'1 and 350 and has the same problem.

Is the wall a factory divider between the driver and the seats, or is the a previously converted bus with a wall built in?

Seat relocation is possible, however in your case especially, if you put it far enough back to sit, you likely won’t be able to reach the pedals.

Does it have a particularly large steering wheel and would swapping it for a smaller one help?

This might be obvious, but just in case…

See if the wheel tilts. It may move out of the way and give you plenty of room.

My transit bus moves probably 7” forward (it comes straight up out of the floor).

Check and see. Because that is free

I've been trying to sell the wife on a chain link steering wheel since we got the bus.
Probably isn't gonna happen.
Probably best it doesn't.
But I still really want one.
