Dt466e rpm
Have a 98 international 3800 series 6 window Dt466e with an at545 has 477 rears at 55 I'm running 2500 rpms my question is, is that too high rpms had conflicting answers from dealer one said it was okay the other said it was too high I think it's high but not too much expierence with a Dt466e. I was also wondering what that at545 likes to run at if I changed gear ratio if I would burn it up sooner pulling a 32 footer pulls great just takes a while would like to switch to a mt643 but not yet
thank you

With that motor and gear ratio I would be looking first to swap tranny's, not gears. The more you push that 545 the quicker it will eat itself. With that motor/gear/and a 3060 mine is doing 80@2300

643 is a nice upgrade.
I've got a Cat with a 545 and it cruises at 1800 rpm at 65mph. Got 4.11 rear axle ratio.
My old bus had a DT466 with 643 and 4.44 rear. It maxed out at 62 mph. So yours sounds about right for your setup.
I'd do gears then wait till the transmission shows signs of dying and upgrade it too.

Yeah so far it seems to be good knock on wood lol I read in a forum some where I can't recall that the at 545 didn't like low rpm but I could be mistaken

Mark's bus is a 466E, it uses the MD3060 TCM / harness which is standard to all 3060's.. and then there is a J1939 data link from his engine computer to the TCM for throttle / engine load data etc.. the 3060 harness is NOT the same as an allison 2000 harness.. nor is the TCM.
your Bus should be the same... any 3060 with its harness and electronics (including the shifter.. its electronic on a 3060).. will fit into your DT466.. you'll likely need the secondary mounting brackets for the frame ..

If you're looking to replace with a 3060 I would highly recommend finding one that already has 6th gear open, it seems it's difficult to get Navistar to unlock them in our older buses.

+1, and its not the transmission, its the TCM, so if you end up needing to purchase a TCM (cant find one with the transmission), then purchase one from a vendor that sells it as a 6th unlocked TCM..
the allison 3060 transmission is always 6 gears.. just a matter of the Transmission computer allowing it to use all gears.. (allison transmissions use a separate computer from the engine computer.. called a TCM)

I have a 2000 Amtran with the MD3060 and a 4.44 N190 differential and unfortunately the 6th gear has also been locked out.
I spoke to these folks www.pcmperformance.com and they said they could open up the 6th gear for $400.
Its this option or re-gear the differential which isn't that bad. You can get a wide range of gear for about $700 for the part and the installation is easy enough

It came as a standard option for that motor. You made need other trim rings or hardware associated with and the mounts might be different, but it will bolt up to the motor. it's a popular upgrade.
