Engine ID please

Found a bus local, says "Big 240 GM hp motor and Allison transmission". Done alot of research on here as I prepare to start a conversion but not familiar with the GM diesel. Can you help me with what the GM motor is and if it's a good skoolie option? Thanks!

Probably the 6.5.

Don't take it for granted though, verify!

A 240hp 6.5? With an Allison?

Was Thomas using GM's in 1997? I thought by then they were using Freightliner chassis.

It could be a cutaway chassis.

From the photos, it is a standard flat nose bus. Hope to go look at it today. If it is a Detroit Deisel is that a good motor? I don't see alot about them posted on here.

Do you have a link of the bus ad? I doubt it has a 6.5 in a flatnose.

Went and checked it out. Lifted the engine cover... DT466 motor. The lady that listed it has no idea what she has. Got on the freeway and pedal mashed topped out at 62 on flat ground. Very slight incline and it started losing speed. Not gonna work for the traveling we hope to do. Plan to take our time but don't want everyone on the highway mad at the slow bus.

62 is pretty standard, seems a LOT of buses top out around 62.
Most NC buses will only do 45-50.
