Flooring

Hey everyone!
Long time lurker, and I finally got a bus on a government auction!
As I’m waiting for them to get the title squared away, I’m trying to assemble some materials to get started.

When it comes to flooring- what do y’all think is the best option, not considering cost for the extra square footage:

Put down all the flooring first for one solid layer...

Build and then floor around it?

Whatcha think?

Congrats on getting your bus. Now the real fun starts...
Being in WI, you might ought think about insulating the floor first, and then sheathing it, with built-ins atop. With zero insulation, you'll soon discover how cold that deck will be, even in only cool weather.
Removing whatever is currently covering the deck will give you the opportunity to repair and treat whatever rust issues there may be.
When you get a chance, got to your profile & fill out your bus' CV; engine, tranny, year, coachwork, et al. It will greatly simplify things when/if you need advice, if all that is known up front!

You’re the best! I was definitely planning on doing ALL of the insulating. (I’m actually wanting to try RockWool, with Greatstuff for the gaps, but that’s a discussion for another thread...)

Awwww, you're only saying that 'coz it's true..!
There has been some heated debate about Great Stuf not being particularly great for Skoolie application. Not fully curing, enhancing corrosion... You may want to search the site- there are recommended alternatives, can't think what they are, ATM.
Some good info on how to construct your subfloor here, as well. No point in re-inventing the wheel!
Unless you have a federal grant, in which case, roll with it!

Not that you have to but I am sure 98% of us who have or are converting a skoolie will advise you to strip the floor to metal and repair and or rust treat as needed. On my skoolie after floor maintenance I put down 1.5" foamular and covered that with .75" Drimax subfloor covered with vinyl plank.There will be discussions about framing the floor first, marine ply vs plywood vs osb I can only tell you what I did. I did not frame the floor first and I did use osb but the the osb I used is special for subfloor use has a 500 day no swell warranty I would use nothing other than that, more expensive that regular plywood and osb less expensive than marine ply my floor is at least five times more solid than I expected and is as solid as my house floor if not more so.I put the vinyl down first and built on top of it. Well I am definitely going to strip it all the way down, repair, prime, rustoleum, frame with 2x2s, and lay foam board.
The plywood vs. osb vs. marine though...😱

I love this forum.
I asked about laying flooring and then building on top of it vs. building and then laying...
...and everyone jumps in and makes sure I am doing ALL of the steps up to that point.
