We've had our bus for 7 years now and every year I've had to clean squirrel nests out of the engine bay. I've tried two different commercial squirrel repellents, soap bars and several spices and none of them kept those buggers away. After removing a huge nest this fall I was about ready to go to war with the lawn rats until a friend of ours told us how fox urine kept squirrels and even cats out of her flower beds so I gave it a try but I didn't really expect much.
The urine needs to be reapplied every few weeks so I made a urine reservoir out of a small can we had laying around and ran a plastic hose from it up to the front of the engine so I wouldn't have to pull the motor cover every time I needed to add some. I used a magnet to attach the can to one of the valve covers and used a syringe to inject the fox pee into the hose.
It's been 5 months now and (hallelujah!!!) there's not even a hint of a squirrel nest. I got the fox urine on line and I'll be buying more. The squirrels
should be happy because my next step was to (ahem) invite them to dinner.
Here's the stuff
