Glue from insulation on ceiling

Hi all,
I just took the insulation out of my ceiling and it’s pretty ugly in there. Many shreds of insulation stuck on by black glue I can’t get off. Any advice? How clean should I get it / what should I use? I have noticed rust under the insulation and was planning on spray foaming. Should I do a paint/ sealant coat of some sort?

I took a pressure washer to the inside and knocked all that crud off the ceiling. What little rust that's there can be sprayed with a rust converter and then insulated.

I had rust hiding BEHIND that black goo. That goo is "asphalteum". I'd get rid of it if you suspect rust. Its crude stuff and it basically traps condensation and leads to rust. Getting it out was quite a chore but I'd do it again.

My wife helped-

A lot of blood sweat and beers.

A scraper and wire wheel were first. Then we used aircraft stripper which is messy but it worked nicely.
Someone said try dry ice but I was already done. Took forever.

Wrong time of the year for this but my little bus was practically held together with asphaltum. Once the temp dropped to about 50 degrees the stuff chipped of using a 2" wood chisel and a small hammer--very satisfying work.

I tried pressure washing. Got some of it off - big mess.
I then tried angle grinder with wire brush - another big mess and did not take it of very well.
I then bought an oscillating multi tool from Harbor Freight - by far the best way to deal with it. I had to sharpen the blade but it shaved it off neatly with very little effort and quickly. You NEED to get that stuff off there!! I found lots of rust under mine.
Be sure to prime with an acrylic or epoxy primer on anything galvanized. Alkyd primer (oil based) will saponify (make soap) and lift off galvanized surfaces.
