Going without Bedroom

Just wondering are there any full timers that built without a bedroom & just use a futon in your living room area?, Drawing out plans I got to thinking since it will be just for wife & I this would free up a lot of space for nicer Bathroom, Little bit more closet space, If there is are you glad you went that route or would a separate bedroom been better??

I did give it thought, but.

I hate having to make my bed when tired.

So I'm going for the bed in the back method.

My first wife thought futons were the best thing since sliced bread, I HATED them, still HATE them. Nothing but back aches, shoulder aches, and broken sleep cycles... Definitely a lose-lose situation. My wife and I are building with a King-sized mattress foundation in the back above the engine with a pillow-top mattress to top it off. LOVE to sleep comfortable. Remember, once you close your eyes, it's not what you see but what you feel that makes a good nights sleep.

We were planning on a full or queen in the back. Like Nat, I utterly loath having to build my bed, especially after driving all day. Plus I spent the first four years of my 6 year relationship with Mrs Scooternj Mk1 sleeping on a pullout sofa at her parents house, and I have no desire to return to that kind of living. If we need more space, I can *always* delete the two bunks and blow the aft wall forward.

I am giving up everything but my couch and a comfortable bed.
You have to draw the line somewhere.

If you can do without a bed, you can do without MANY things, even a roof.

Love my bed and bedroom, its also nice to have a place to go and get away from each, you may want to take a nap, or watch tv while your other half wants to do something else in the bus. And as other said, I don't want to make up a bed after a day of driving.

I have found that an uncomfortable bed can ruin your time away from home. Plus you then want to get home sooner because you are looking forward to your regular bed. So you should aim for a bed as comfortable or more comfortable than the bed at home. Then you look forward to getting away more. Just my 2 pennies worth!

I'd sacrifice a bathroom altogether for a good bed.

It's not just about comfort though, because if you consistently don't get enough sleep, it can cause health issues. Not to mention general grumpyness. Nobody wants to be in tight quarters with someone who's in a bad mood because they haven't been able to sleep well.

Our beds this time around are separate. Though the thought crossed our minds...briefly. Living with three dogs jumping all over the bed helped with the decision.

My first bus had a combination bed & flop space for all to enjoy. No futon just a bed that everyone could just hang in (that was back in the 70's so not odd at the time)
Worked out fine, just had to take a broom to get the days living out of the bed, pull down the blankets and hit the sack.

In my 60's now and we wanted to have a room to go to when we are sick or just want to be alone.

That and a story my daughter shared about her bed being the flop spot in her first apartment she shared with a roommate and after working a 12 hr day came home exhausted to a bed that roomies friend had gotten drunk, spilled his beer on and then proceeded to piss his pants all over.

She moved out the next day when roomie wouldn't swap beds for the night.

I would almost think the opposite. If building a couch make it out of a good twin mattress. A more comfortable crash pad. Personally I would always lean towards real mattress setups. Better beds crappier sitting areas.
