Gravity feed for water delivery?

Has anyone installed a gravity feed water supply in their bus? I would like to use it for washing instead of a powered pump so when I do not have shore power I still have the option of pumping the water from a holding tank to the feed tank.

So my system would follow this path:
original water source flows to -> filter -> into the bus's 25-50 gallon fresh water tank -> a hand pump would feed water to -> a 3-5 gallon tank above the sink where -> a valve/faucet would control flow to -> the sink and into -> the grey water tank.

I've seen water tanks with wheels that would allow me to roll it to a dumping station.

Does this sound viable? Anyone done this already?

I know someone who hangs a portable shower bag from the ceiling and washes with it

Re: Gravity feed for water delivery?

Gravety works very well in a fresh water system.
My cabin in Alaska used that, but i had to pack the water upstairs into the loft to fill the tank.
It is easier just to have a 12v battery and pump.

Re: Gravity feed for water delivery?

The reason I want 2 tanks (the large potable water and the smaller one above the sink) is I can heat small amounts of water at a time.

I've been looking at heat on demand units, which would negate the need for the second tank, but can't decide which one. However, since my first big voyage will be in the summer, I'm thinking I'll make a simple solar water heater for the trip, then find something more commercial. This will help with the water pressure because I can put it on the roof.

Re: Gravity feed for water delivery?

I will eventually use large diameter (maybe 4"?) black ABS plastic piping on my roof to create a solar heated, gravity fed hot water system. I have an electric hot water heater, but would like to have the roof mounted hot water system when boondocking or on the road. This will be installed after I get the full length roof rack done. That's gonna be sweet. So much potential for roof-mounted stuff once the rack is up!

10' of 4" pvc pipe holds 7 gallons I believe, seems like I measured it when I built a concession trailer

Sweet! I could have like 30 gallons up there! Heck, I don't need that much - maybe I'll go with 2" diameter instead for faster heating and less weight. I'm planning on having the tubing trace the perimeter of the roof rack, which will be close to the full length of the bus.

I have this saved as an HTML page to my desktop.

This is not from any skoolie or RV site. So if that bothers you, please don't use the site.

To figure a PVC pipe, think of it standing vertical and choose "flat bottom" under Tank Type.
