Decided that we are going to take the plunge and direct the roof raise locally.

Had an awesome response from folks in the forum, and I'm confident that there are enough folks willing/able to offer help/guidance/opinions to keep us from bungling it up too badly.

Grateful for this forum and all the expertise represented here!

Hi...and thanks. I did email you yesterday. If you don't see it, check your spam folder maybe? I didn't mean to spam you.

EDIT to add: I'm delivering a bus to Reno on the 15th. I could head to Monterey from there and drive your bus back here. That would save you the drive and return flight. I do have a CDL, btw.

Quick update - was able to find a local shop that does a lot of vehicle fab (4x4 customization, overlander conversions on on old military vehicles) that is willing to partner with us on the roof raise.

https://www.rlcweldfab.com/

Never done a roof raise before, but seems like a very competent shop. Work starts in a few weeks.

What are the gotchas that an experienced fabrication shop should watch out for on their first roof raise?

Roof raise done - solid work!

Just wanted to provide a follow-up -

RLC wrapped up the roof raise in the spring. They did a really solid job, and I'm going to use them for the remaining fab required to complete the project (solar roof mounting rack, deleting orig door and adding a side-door, adding undercarriage storage).

If you are close to Louisville and need a roof raise, I'd recommend them.
