Holley 2-barrel jetting?

Hello again.

I'm working on my 1981 IH-BB with the MV404 gasoline engine and a Holley 2-barrel.

A major step in my conversion is to get the silly thing registered here in California. The DMV accepted it just fine as an RV conversion. But it turns out it must be smog inspected, and it runs too rich at high RPMs. I've already replaced the needle-and-seat and the power valve -- that fixed the super-rich idle. Float level is not too high. The smog mechanic guessed the school district might have changed the jets to make it run better. I'll pull them out tomorrow and look what numbers they are. Is there a site on this information super highway can I find the correct jet numbers? List number is 7922.

I have a Holley 2 bbl that I am not using I pulled from my old engine. If you would like I can see if the jets that are in it are ones you would like. Then if they are we could just swap jets.


Let me know if you want me to pull them or not and check.

Thanks, Tony, that's a great offer. I would sure like to know what they are.

I'm kicking myself for not checking what jets were in there when I had it apart,
but then I had no idea I would want to know!

But I won't be working on it until after Burning Man -- it's a struggle just to
get ready for that. Perhaps I'll see you there?

To add to our knowledge bank, here is what I learned about the main jets.

Correct jets for carburetor list number 7922 are number 59 jets. A carburator
specialist named "The Carburetor Factory" in Sacramento, California, looked
it up for me. (All they do is carburetors. Very helpful and friendly folks.
Telephone 916/339-3835. http://www.carburetorfactory.com)

As suspected, the jets in the carb were larger: 65.

I bought a pair of 59 and a pair of 54 for good measure. When I took the bus
to the smog shop, I installed the 54s. Mistake! Too lean! The correct 59s were
what it needed to pass that part of the test.

It still failed due to an electrical misfire. Working on that now.
