hood insulation

I talked a bit before about this topic, on the hood of my bus there is a foot and a half of snow, so I started up the old girl(bus) she wasnt nearly as nosiey out side in front, and inside was noticeably quiet inside. then I shovled off the snow, it was a difference . inside and out. this means Ill be insulating the hood this spring, as well as the firewall.
just something I to share with everyone. (motor is 444 dognose bluebird.

Re: hood insulation

We used this on both the Class C (engine doghouse is inside the interior) and on the bus. Well, part of the bus. I ran out and had to cover the removable lid of the doghouse with Reflectix to keep the heat down. One standard "kit" did the Class C (I had two) but we had used part of the second kit on the food cart so I was a tad short on the bus engine cover.

Re: hood insulation

I'm converting a FE Genesis, which has the driver's seat about 18" from a clattering DT466 engine. All I can say is: Dynamat! My friend has part of a 36"x50' roll left over from his V8 Miata project, and I plan to use all of it! I also plan to cover the "doghouse" with marine-grade carpet, probaably two layers of it. And make sure the doghouse gasket (on a flat-front) seals properly...if not, nothing else you do will accomplish all that much.

Also: on some buses (the BB TC1000 I drove, and my Genesis), the single noisiest thing seems to be the enormous cooling fan...mine is audible from 50'+ away.
