How to make a skoolie look less like a school bus

I'm not trying to preserve the school bus look in any way. I just want things to work as well as possible. An RV door installed nicely looks great. I prefer the ones with really big windows in the door. I'm still inclined to use the original bus door halves welded together to make one solid door that can use standard household hardware. If it doesn't work I can always get a decent RV door. I'd just go to a junk yard that had wrecked RVs.

No wood floors here. I'm still walking on my puke mats, although these are light brown like linoleum, if you don't focus on the L-track. The flooring is usually under carpet that gets thrown away annually anyway. This was my second winter with an uninsulated floor and there are thoughts of loosing the L-track so I can insulate properly and maybe even install hydronic floor heat. I'm short enough to do that without a roof raise. I definitely need floor insulation. I don't want to be driving through Texas with the air conditioner on and have a hot floor, much like I have a cold floor in a warm bus now.

This is the ultimate fort build. Fits right in with my second childhood.

Curious... on the wood flooring, why don't you like it? Personal preference or is there a reasons it's bad in a bus? I ask because my dad has a ton of it around and I thought it would hold up nicely in a bus.

Would be interested to hear if it's something I should avoid because of something I can't think of.

Here's a thought. CL has lots of RV parts like furnaces and tanks. Obviously those RVs being deconstructed had doors but there's not much market for them. You could try contacting one of the used parts sellers.

I really want to find a nice door like the blood mobiles that have the nice larger windows top and bottom. I think that looks nice and clean.

This is interesting! Considering how many conversions I've seen here and elsewhere that are outwardly basically a school bus with a paint job, I'm surprised to see this response here!

I've been impressed with a lot of the lengths that folks have gone to to keep some of that School Bus essence, even when doing roof-raises and such.

Myself, I'm looking for a dog-nose bus specifically because it's a look that just screams "SCHOOL BUS!!" to me, but I'm also planning to cut everything else off the chassis from just below the windows and then building back up from scratch. I'm definitely planning to keep the split front door, though! Love those things.
