Huge door in side of Gillig?

I'm considering placing a low-ball bid myself on the Gilligs I talked about in "classified". But I would need to cut a huge door in the side of it in order to load my toy in sideways -- see avatar. Any thoughts on a 12 foot void in the right side of a rear-engine 1980 Gillig -- assuming I reinforce the opening adequately?

I know nothing about Gilligs so this is just a thought. If they have frame rails like most other skoolies you should be ok. However if it is built like most transits you might have a problem. The rear of the bus actually hangs from the roof. Many of them are monococue (sp?) construction like a car.

Frank in Idaho is a Gillig and Crown expert. He as a few of them and has scrapped some. He can tell you anything you want to know about them. He is a member of this board so you can look him up. If you want his phone number email me.

Thanks. They do have a frame -- see my other post above. I'm kind'a rushing to decide to bid or not.

You might want to talk with Frank anyway. He knows those buses.
