Re: Injector Pump Leak
Start by deciding if you have a rotary or an inline pump. You'll know by just looking at it.
Could it be your return fuel hose? On inline pumps, the return hose is VERY suceptible to cracking from all the heat in that area.

Re: Injector Pump Leak
That's a rotary pump. Those were also used on Dodge pickups up to around 1994, so you might want to take a look at the Dodge Cummins Diesel forum. Tons of information about all years of the Cummins 5.9 there. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/

Re: Injector Pump Leak
I've taken that pump off of that motor 2 times now. What a B*tch! It's not as hard on the reg dodge motors because there's no air compressor. On school buses there is. They make a two special tools for the job. A Curved 13mm wrench to reach around to the bottom nut/stud holding it to the front cover. Second is an engine barring tool. It allows you to turn the motor with a socket wrench. It's tedious and a pain but doable. As far as replacing the gasket, you need to call a pump place. These things are timed to the motor so any mis adjustment of it's cycle will throw it off. It's a pain. Oh yeah take a cushion or something and put it on the motor when your dinking around. Never had to many bruises on my chest before. Good luck

He also said I should not attempt to do this myself.

From what little I have learned over the years, I'm inclined to agree.

Re: Injector Pump Leak
Ask your local pump guy if you can borrow the curved wench and engine barring tool. It will save you some frustration!

Re: Injector Pump Leak
Few men are willing to lend out a well curved wench -- unless the marriage is already beyond repair and he is looking for an excuse to file for divorce.
