Installing shelving on the original metal siding/wall or remove it first?

Hey all,
We are planning to install some sturdy shelving in our kitchen area that will hold a 5-gallon jug of water to gravity feed the sink. We are wondering if anyone has advice on whether removing the original metal siding or leaving it is better. We've had a hard time screwing into the steel ribs of the bus through the metal, even using an impact driver with wood to metal self tapping screws.

It depends on how you plan to use your bus, the results you desire and what you're willing to do.

Personally, for full-timing in colder climates, I would remove the inner wall skin, weld appropriate-style brackets to the body ribs, insulate well, then replace the original metal wall skin with something a bit more warmth of appearance, cutting it to clear the brackets.
